YABATECH Department of Urban & Regional Planning Admission Requirement

This article is designed to help students who wish to study Urban and  Regional Planning  Faculty of Engineering, Environment and Technology  in Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in YABATECH  to  carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

Yaba College of Technology is the first higher institution in Nigeria to establish a Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, with linkages with the world of commerce and industry. The centre offers compulsory courses which must be taken by all students throughout their stay in the college.

There is a Quality Assurance Unit in the college which monitors the quality of academic service delivery.

The Applied Research and Technology Innovation (ARTI) Unit was established to promote research and linkages with private sector organizations for the exploitation and use of research. ARTI also assists to promote linkages between students of Yabatech and students of other institutions especially in the area of research.

Free medical service is provided at the Medical Centre, which is open 24/7. Sports facilities are provided at the sport complex which is located at the centre of the campus. The college has won the Nigeria Polytechnic Games Association five times out of sixteen editions of the competition.

The college has a second campus at Epe, this campus is home to the Department of Agricultural Technology and Michael Otedola Information and Communication Centre.

The College is currently headed by Engineer Obafemi Omokungbe, the Rector. He is the first alumnus of the institution to be appointed Rector. He succeeded Dr. Margaret Kudirat Ladipo, on March 6, 2018 who completed her tenure December 10, 2017.

To study Urban and  Regional Planning candidates must meet the following requirements.


The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Urban and Regional Planning;

You require; Mathematics,
Geography and three other subjects from:
English Language,
Fine Art/Technical Drawing,
Further Mathematics,
History/Government Business Methods/Bookkeeping and Principles of Accounting One of the three subjects must be a basic science subject.
At least a credit pass in English Language is compulsory.


In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Urban and Regional Planning under the Faculty of Engineering, Environment & Technology in the above Universities include;

Geography and two other subjects from course requirement


a) NEKEDEPOLY accepts Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics.

b) KAD-POLY accepts any three of Mathematics, Geography and any one from Economics, Biology or Agricultural Science.

c) RIVPOLY accepts Economics in lieu of Geography.

d) OFFAPOLY requires Mathematics, Geography/Economics and any one subject from Sciences or Fine Art.


These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Urban and Regional Planning, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require; a) IBD-POLY and OSUNTECH require a credit in English Language and Geography.

b) ILAROPOLY requires a credit pass in English Language.

c) MAPOLY requires four relevant credits at one sitting or five credits at not more than two sittings.

d) LASPOTECH requires credits in English and Mathematics and a pass in any of the following science subjects:
1) Physics
2) Chemistry
3) Biology/Agricultural Science plus any one credit from subjects chosen from:
*) Economics *) Geography *) Art/Tech Draw.

e) RUGIPO accepts a pass in English Language. Requires Mathematics, Economic/Geography and a Science subject as UTME subject.

f) YABATECH credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, one subject from Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science and any other from Government, Statistics, Fine Art/Technical Drawing, History, Commerce, Further Mathematics/Physics, Chemistry or Biology.

g) EKITIPOLY requires credit passes in Mathematics and Geography, a Basic Science subject and one from English Language, Economics/Commerce, Art/Technical Drawing and Statistics and offers the course as Urban and Regional Planning.

h) PLAPOLY requires O/L credits in Mathematics, Eng. Lang, Geography and other subject from Economics, Arts, Tech. Drawing, Government/History, Chemistry, Physics, Biology.

i) OSPOLY does not accept History and Government as course requirement. It however requires a credit in Geography

j) KWARAPOLY does not accept Commerce, Business Method, Agric. Science, Government/History and Account but accepts a Credit Pass in Statistics.

k) RUGIPO accepts a pass in English Language.

l) NEKEDEPOLY requires credit passes in Mathematics, a Science Subject and any other three subjects chosen from those listed in column 2

m) MAPOLY requires four credits at one sitting or five credits at not more than two sittings to include Mathematics, English language and one science subject. Other subject from Chemistry, Physics, Biology/ Agricultural Science, Geography Economics/Commerce, Fine Arts/Technical Drawing, Government/History, Religious Knowledge, Further Mathematics and Nigerian Language.

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into YABATECH  for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 150 or above in your JAMB result.

Departmental Cutoff Mark 

The Departmental Cutoff Mark for Urban and Regional Planning is 62
