YABATECH Department of Food Technology Admission Requirement

This article is designed to help students who wish to study  Food Technology Faculty of Engineering, Environment and Technology  in Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in YABATECH  to  carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

Yaba College of Technology is the first higher institution in Nigeria to establish a Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, with linkages with the world of commerce and industry. The centre offers compulsory courses which must be taken by all students throughout their stay in the college.

There is a Quality Assurance Unit in the college which monitors the quality of academic service delivery.

The Applied Research and Technology Innovation (ARTI) Unit was established to promote research and linkages with private sector organizations for the exploitation and use of research. ARTI also assists to promote linkages between students of Yabatech and students of other institutions especially in the area of research.

Free medical service is provided at the Medical Centre, which is open 24/7. Sports facilities are provided at the sport complex which is located at the centre of the campus. The college has won the Nigeria Polytechnic Games Association five times out of sixteen editions of the competition.

The college has a second campus at Epe, this campus is home to the Department of Agricultural Technology and Michael Otedola Information and Communication Centre.

The College is currently headed by Engineer Obafemi Omokungbe, the Rector. He is the first alumnus of the institution to be appointed Rector. He succeeded Dr. Margaret Kudirat Ladipo, on March 6, 2018 who completed her tenure December 10, 2017.

Nigerian Polytechnics Offering Food Technology 

To study Food Technology  candidates must meet the following requirements.


The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Food Technology;

You require; 1. Mathematics,
2. Chemistry and
3. Biology/Agricultural
3. Science/Health Science.

And any two of the following:

1. Physics, Technical Drawing,
2. Economics/Commerce,
3. English Language,
4. Additional/Further Mathematics,Home Economics,
Food and Nutrition,Geography plus at least credit
passes in Physics and English Language.


In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Food Technology under the Faculty of Engineering, Environment & Technology in the above Universities include;

Biology/Agricultural Science and any two of the

1. Physics,
2. Chemistry,
3. Mathematics and
4. Economics


These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Food Technology, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require; a) IBADANPOLY, GIWAPOLY,ADOPOLY, OSPOLY and LASPOTECH require credit in Mathematics.

b)IBADANPOLY : requires 5 credits at not more than
two sittings including Mathematics and at least a pass in Physics.

c)ILAROPOLY : requires a credit pass in Mathematics and at least a pass in Physics.

d)IBADANPOLY: and FEDPOILA does not accept
Economics as UTME subject.

e)NUBAPOLY: offers it as Food Science and Technology.

f)OFFAPOLY : accepts at least a pass in English Language and Physics.

g)YABATECH and AKANUPOLY requires five credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science and any one of the following; Physics, Additional Mathematics, Economics, Food Nutrition, Statistics and at least a pass in Physics. Also does not accept Economics as
UTME subject.

h)IBADANPOLY : requires Chemistry as one of the UTME subjects.

i)OKOPOLY: requires a credit in Mathematics, English
Language Statistics,Further Mathematics,Food and Nutrition/Hotel Catering, Basic electricity, Geography

(j)NEKEDEPOLY: and RUGIPO require at least a pass
in English Language and Physics.

(a) accept Candidates who have successfully completed NBTE recognized Pre – National Diploma (Science and Technology) course at credit level may be admitted into the programme. Such students must have at least pass grades in Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and one other subject chosen from Physics, Economics,Food and Nutrition, Geography in WASC or GCE ‘O’ level before undertaking the course.

(b) do not accept the combination of two different examination bodies at SSCE O’level (it is either NECO

l) FEDPO – BAU accepts chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and any one of the following; Physics, Economics, Geography.

m)OSPOLY : requires credit passes in two basic Sciences, Geography,Economics/Commerce.

n)IMOPOLY : accepts five credits from SSCE/GCE
i/c subjects: English Language, Mathematics,
Chemistry, Biology/Agric. Science/Health
Science and any one from the following:

1. Biology/Health
2. Science/Agric. Sci
3. Physics,
4. Economics/Commerce,
5. Additional/Further
6. Mathematics
7. Home Economic,
8. Food and Nutrition,
9. Geography and A pass in Physics is accepted.

o)MAPOLY : requires five credits in not more than two sittings to include credit in Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology/Agricultural Science with a minimum of pass in Physics and English Language.

p)DELTAPOLY : accepts a pass in Physics.

q)FIDEIPOLY : accepts five credits from SSCIE/GCE subjects.
The subjects are to include,
1. Mathematics,
2. Chemistry,
3. Biology/Agric.
4. Science/Health Science,
5. Economics/Commerce,
6. Additional/Further Maths, Statistics, Home 7.Economics,Food and Nutrition/Hotel Catering and Geography. A pass in English and Physics is accepted.

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into YABATECH  for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 150 or above in your JAMB result.

Departmental Cutoff Mark

The Departmental Cutoff mark for Food Technology in YABATECH is 65.5
