UNN Department of Education and Social Science Admission Requirement

This article is designed to help students who wish to study Education and Social Science under the Faculty of Education  in University of  Nigeria  Nsukka as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in UNN  to  carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

The University of Nigeria, commonly referred to as UNN, is a federal university located in Nsukka, Enugu State, Nigeria. Founded by Nnamdi Azikiwe in 1955 and formally opened on 7 October 1960, the University of Nigeria has four campuses – Nsukka, Enugu, and Ituku-Ozalla – all located in Enugu State and Aba campus in Abia State

The University of Nigeria was the first full-fledged indigenous and first autonomous university in Nigeria modelled upon the American educational system. It is the first land-grant university in Africa and one of the five most reputed universities in Nigeria. The university has 15 Faculties and 102 academic departments. The University offers 82 undergraduate programs and 211 postgraduate programmes.

The university celebrated its 50th anniversary on October 2010

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Education and Social Science;

You require;

Five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes or equivalent to include English Language and Mathematics.


1. EBSU requires credit pass in Mathematics

2. UNIPORT requires subject or the teaching
subject relevant to the Teaching subject. Also requires Mathematics for Economics and Accounting and for Political Science requires Government or History.

3. UNN:
(a) Requires five ‘O’ level credit passes including English Language, a science subject and the subject to be combined with education.
(b) For Social Studies/Education: credit pass in three Social science or Arts subjects are required
(c) Credit pass in Mathematics and Economics for Education/Economics.
(d) Credit pass in Government for Political science/Education”
(e) Credit in Geography, plus any other three subjects and a pass in mathematics for Education/Geography.

4. NDU requires five O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, and any other three subjects, two of which must be social science subjects in not more than two sittings

In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Education and Social Science under the Faculty of Education in the above Universities include;

Any three Social Science Subjects.


1. UNN:
a. For Education/Geography: English Language, Geography, plus any other two (2) subjects
b. For Education/Economics: English Language, Mathematics, Economics plus any other Social Science subject.
c. For Education/Political Science: English Language, Government, plus any other two subjects.
d. For Education/Social Studies: English Language, plus any other three Social Science/Arts subjects



These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Education and Social Science, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;

i. NCE in two relevant subjects.

ii. Two ‘A’ level passes in relevant subjects.


1. EBSU accepts NCE Social Studies.

2. UNN accepts:
a. UTME requirement plus two “A’ level passes in relevant subjects which should include candidates proposed course.
b. NCE credit/merit passes in addition to TC II or ‘O’ level credit in relevant subjects.
c. “Candidates must satisfy the UTME requirements.

3. Candidates with ND at distinction, credit and merit levels in other disciplines who possess the University Minimum entry requirement plus at least relevant credit passes in WASSCE and NECO O ‘level may be offered admission but will run the 4-Year programme.

4. NDU – Same as Vocational and Technical Education.

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into NDA for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have score a minimum of  200 or above in your JAMB result.
