UNN Department of Agriculture Economics Admission Requirement

This article is designed to help students who wish to study Agricultural Economics under the Faculty of Agriculture  in University of  Nigeria  Nsukka as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in UNN  to  carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

The University of Nigeria, commonly referred to as UNN, is a federal university located in Nsukka, Enugu State, Nigeria. Founded by Nnamdi Azikiwe in 1955 and formally opened on 7 October 1960, the University of Nigeria has four campuses – Nsukka, Enugu, and Ituku-Ozalla – all located in Enugu State and Aba campus in Abia State

The University of Nigeria was the first full-fledged indigenous and first autonomous university in Nigeria modelled upon the American educational system. It is the first land-grant university in Africa and one of the five most reputed universities in Nigeria. The university has 15 Faculties and 102 academic departments. The University offers 82 undergraduate programs and 211 postgraduate programmes.

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Agricultural Economics;

You require;

Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science and one of Geography, Physics and Economics.


(i) DELSU accepts ‘O’ level pass in English Language.

(ii) UNIBEN accepts Statistics and Further Mathematics. Also requires at least ‘O’ level pass in Physics and ‘O’level pass in Biology for candidates with ‘O’ level credit in Agricultural Science.

(iii) OAU does not require ‘O’ level credit passes in Geography and Economics.

(iv) UNIOSUN same as in Fisheries.

(v) MOUA  requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes at not more than two (2) sittings to include English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science and any other Science subjects. Also credit in Agricultural Science must be backed up with ‘O’ level pass in Biology

(vi) UNIOSUN requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in the SSC or its equivalent at not more than two (2) sittings in addition to UTME requirements.

(vii) UNN accepts five (5) ‘O ’level credit passes in subjects which must include English Language, Biology/or Agricultural Science, Chemistry and either Mathematics or Physics.

(viii) FUTO requires at least five (5) ‘O’ Level Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science and any other subject, in not more than two (2) sittings. At least a Pass is required in Physics

(ix) LAUTECH requires English Language, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science and any of Physics/ Economics/Geography.

(x) LANDMARK requires Chemistry and any two of Biology, Agricultural sciences, Mathematics, Physics, Economics.


In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Agricultural Economics under the Faculty of Agriculture in the above Universities include;

Chemistry, Biology/ Agricultural Science and Mathematics or Physics.


(i) OOU requires Chemistry and any two (2) of Physics, Mathematics, Biology, Agricultural Science and Geography.

(ii) LANDMARK – requires English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural science and Physics or Economics or any social science subjec



(i) UNN require ‘A’ level passes in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics plus UTME requirements.


These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Agricultural Economics, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;

Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and one of Zoology/Botany/Agricultu ral Science/Biology, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Geology, Economics and Health Science.


(i) UNN accept

(a) Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and any of Biology/Botany/Zoology/Agricultural Science. Economics, Physics Geography/Geology, Mathematics (Pure & Applied) in addition to the UTME requirements.

(b) ND/NCE/HND and Degree in Agricultural Science/Animal Health and related programs with a minimum of lower credit/merit in addition to UTME requirements.

(ii) OAU accepts

(a) Two (2) `A’ level passes in Chemistry and one of Zoology/ Botany/ Agricultural Science/ Biology, Mathematics, Physics, or Economics.

(b) HND/ND in Agriculture obtained at upper credit level from recognized Institution.

(iii) UNIBEN accepts ND upper credit/HND lower credit in any one of Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Extension, and Cooperatives, Fisheries, Forestry & Wildlife Mgt., Geology, Advanced Microbiology, Food and Brewing Science, Science Laboratory Technology plus the UTME requirements. NCE merit in Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry or Physics plus the UTME requirements. Does not accept ‘A’ level pass in Health Science.

(iv) DELSU accepts upper credit only. DELSU also accepts NCE credit in Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry or Physics.

(v) MOUA as in Agriculture.

(vi) DELSU accepts ND/HND upper credit only.

(vii) FUTO requires at least two (2) A’ level passes not below C in Chemistry and any of Zoology, Botany, Agricultural Science, Biology, Mathematics, Physics and Economics.

b) OND/HND at Upper Credit in Life Sciences.

c) First Degree in Life Sciences.

d) Very good passes in three JUPEB subjects namely Chemistry and any two (2) of Biology/ Agricultural Science, Mathematics and Physics. It does not accept NCE. Candidates must in addition meet the ‘O’ Level requirements.

(viii) UNIOSUN same as in Fisheries.

(ix) LAUTECH requires Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science and any of Physics/Economics /Geography


JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into NDA for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have score a minimum of  200 or above in your JAMB result.
