UNIPORT Department of Education & Computer Science Admission Requirement

This article is designed to help students who wish to study Education and Computer Science Faculty of Education in University of Port-Harcourt (UNIPORT) as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in University of Port-Harcourt to  carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

The University of Port Harcourt is a university in the Nigerian city of Port Harcourt. It was established in 1975 as University College, Port Harcourt and was given University status in 1977. The University of Port Harcourt was ranked the sixth in Africa and the first in Nigeria by Times Higher Education.

The University of Port Harcourt is a federal government owned university in Nigeria Located in rivers state, The university has a large student and staff population and we believe the student body is diverse. The university has students from different religions cultures and age brackets. The university is very cheap and offers tuition that can be affordable to every Nigeria. University of port Harcourt has offers various degree programs at various level in science, social sciences, engineering etc. The university has a library, hostels, roads, and other good infrastructure like college buildings etc.

To study Education and Computer Science candidates must meet the following requirements.


The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Education and Computer Science;

You require;

Five (5) SSC credit passes or its equivalents including Mathematics, English Language and three (3) other Science subjects.


(i)   BU and OOU require ‘O’ Level credit pass in Physics.

(ii)  IAUE requires ‘O’ Level credit pass in English Language.

(iii)     IBBU prefers other subjects in the Sciences.

(iv)   UNIPORT require ‘O’ Level credit pass in Physics or Chemistry.

(v)      LASU requires ‘O’ Level credit passes in Physics and Chemistry.

(vi)     BIU require ‘O’ Level credit passes in Physics and any other two (2) Science subjects.

(vii)    DELSU requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes which must include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other one subject at not more than two (2) sittings.

(viii) TASUED requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes at one(1) sitting or six (6) ‘O’ Level credit passes at two (2) sittings to include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, and any two (2) or three (3) subjects from Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Geography and Agricultural Science.

(ix) BSU requires five credits ‘O’ Level Passes including: Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

(x)   LCU accepts ‘O’ Level credit passes at SSC or its equivalent in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any other two (2) subjects.


In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Education and Computer Science under the Faculty of Education in the above Universities include;

Mathematics, Physics and one of Biology, Chemistry and Geography.


(i)       IAUED requires Economics.

(ii)  BOWEN does not accept Geography/Physics.

(iii)    LASU requires Chemistry.

(iv) TASUED requires Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

(v) DELSU accepts Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Economics.

(vi) BSU requires Mathematics, Physics and any one of Biology, Chemistry, Economics or Geography.


These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Education and Computer Science, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;

Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes including Physics or Chemistry.


(i)    OOU accepts ND/NCE credit in relevant programme.

(ii)   UNIBEN and EKSU accept NCE candidates with credits in ‘O’ Level Mathematics; ND holders must fulfill the UTME requirements.

(iii) IAUE requires two (2) ‘A’ Level passes/NCE in Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics. IAUED accepts ND/HND credit in Computer Science, Statistics, Information Technology and Electronics/Accounting.

(iv)    EKSU accepts NCE merit in Computer and a pass in General English in lieu of ‘O’ Level English Language.

(v)     ATBU accepts NCE pass with five (5) years teaching experience.

(vi)    LASU accepts ‘A’ Level passes in Mathematics and Physics; or NCE at merit in Computer   Education or Physics and Mathematics; OR Equivalents of the above. (vi      BIU same as in Accountancy

(vii)  BU accepts ‘A’ Level/IJMB/NCE/ND or approved equivalents in Mathematics and Physics. Biology cannot be combined with Agricultural Science

(viii)   TASUED accepts two (2)   ‘A’ Level passes in Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics.

(ix) EBSU requires  a)     two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Computer, Mathematics or Integrated Science. b) HND and NCE/OND with minimum of Merit and Upper credit respectively.

(x) BSU accepts: (a) Preliminary degree candidates (from Benue State University only). Must pass at least five (5) out of the six (6) subjects studies with pass level of at least 50% in each subject. (b) NCE use of English is acceptable in lieu of ‘O’ Level in English language. (c) ‘A’ Level pass in any of the acceptable subjects. (d) IJMB/GCE ‘A’ Level or Equivalent in Physics and Mathematics. (e) ND (Computer science) or Diploma in Computer education at upper credits from a recognized institution. (f) At least a merit in NCE (Computer Education) plus credit in Mathematics or Physics and a credit in English Language at SSC or its equivalent.

(xi) SSU also accepts:  a.  NCE with passes in Computer Science and any other Science subject (Physics, Biology, Mathematics or Computer Science) or a double major along with the  UTME requirements. b.  IJMB passes in Computer Science and one (1) Science subject, Physics, Biology, Mathematics or Chemistry with UTME requirements. c.  ND/HND credit level in Computer Science or any relevant subject into 100 Level.

(xii) DELSU requires at least merit pass and above in NCE and above in DELSU Diploma in Computer Science Education, Physics Education, Mathematics Education or Chemistry Education.

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT)  for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 180 or above in your JAMB result.
