UNIPORT Department of Creative Arts Admission Requirement

This article is designed to help students who wish to study Creative Arts Faculty of Arts and Humanities  in University of Port-Harcourt (UNIPORT) as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in University of Port-Harcourt to  carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

The University of Port Harcourt is a university in the Nigerian city of Port Harcourt. It was established in 1975 as University College, Port Harcourt and was given University status in 1977. The University of Port Harcourt was ranked the sixth in Africa and the first in Nigeria by Times Higher Education.

The University of Port Harcourt is a federal government owned university in Nigeria Located in rivers state, The university has a large student and staff population and we believe the student body is diverse. The university has students from different religions cultures and age brackets. The university is very cheap and offers tuition that can be affordable to every Nigeria. University of port Harcourt has offers various degree programs at various level in science, social sciences, engineering etc. The university has a library, hostels, roads, and other good infrastructure like college buildings etc.

To study Creative Arts with Statistics candidates must meet the following requirements.


The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Creative Arts;

You require;

Five (5) SSC credit passes to include English Language and Fine Arts.

For holders of NTC, the relevant subjects could be General Wood work, Building/Engineering Drawing, Introduction to Building Construction; Decorative Painting; SprayPainting, Lining, Sign and Design; Wall hanging, Colour Mixing/Matching and Glazing; Printing Origination; Machine Printing and Finishing; General Metal Work, Basic Electricity, Spinning, Weaving, Surface Design and Printing; Bleaching, Dyeing and Finishing; Graphic Design; Graphic Printing and Ceramics.


(i) LAGOS accepts
a) for Theatre Arts, five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Literature in English, Mathematics and any other two (2) subjects one of which must be an Arts subject.
b) for Music, five (5) ‘O’ levelcredit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Music/Literature inEnglish and any other two (2) subjects from Arts, Science and Social Sciences.
c) for Visual Arts, five (5) ‘O’ levelcredit passes in English Language, Mathematics and any one (1) of Fine Arts/Visual Arts/Photography/Craft Practice/Dyeing & Bleaching and any other two (2) subjects, one (1) of which must be an Arts subject.

(ii) UNIPORT requires three (3) ‘O’ level credit passesto include Literature in English,CRS/IS,Economics, Mathematics/Biology/Agricultural Science, a Nigerian Language, History/Government and Geography.

(iii) UNN requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passesto include English Language, Fine and Applied Arts and one (1) Science subject. Candidates who possess NBC/NTC must have five(5) ‘O’ level credit passes which must include English language, Technical drawing, Painting and Decorating and a Science subject.


In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Creative Arts under the Faculty of Arts & Humanities in the above Universities include;

Fine Arts and two (2) other Arts subjects or Social Science subjects.


(i) UNILAG accepts any one (1) of Fine Arts/Literature in English/Music, one (1) Arts subject and any Science or Social Science subject.

(ii) UNIPORT accepts any three (3) subjects.


These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Creative Arts, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;

(i) Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Arts or Fine Arts and any other subject.

(ii) ND,upper credit HND,lower credit from recognised institutions.


(i) UNIMAID accepts NCE with Fine/Creative Art (Major)

(ii) UNN requires:
(a) Three GCE A’ level passes in Fine Arts or Technical Drawing plus UTME requirements.
(b) HND holders with an average of B grade with UTME requirement into 300 level.
(c) ND/NCE at merit level with UTME requirements.
(d) Candidates would be interviewed.

(iii) UNILAG requires very good passes in three (3) JUPEB/’A’ level subjects
a) for Theatre Arts, Literature in English and any two (2) of Igbo, Yoruba, CRS/IS, French, History, Government, Music and Visual Arts.
b) for Visual Arts, Visual Arts and any two (2) of Igbo/Yoruba, CRS/IS, French, History, Government, and Music.
c) for Music, Music and any two (2) from Literature in English, Igbo/Yoruba, CRS/IS, French, History, Government, Economics, Chemistry, Biology, Further Mathematics and Visual Arts.
d) Also accepts HND/ND upper credit in Drama/Theatre and Music; NCE Music and ND or ‘A’ level in Music from the Royal School of Music, London, Trinity College, London and Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON).

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT)  for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 180 or above in your JAMB result.
