This article is designed to help students who wish to study Mass Communication under the Faculty of Arts & Humanities in the University of Jos, as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in UNIJOS to carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.
What became the University of Jos was established in November 1971 from the elite campus of the University of Ibadan.
The first students were admitted in January 1972 as pre-degree students, and the first Bachelor of Arts degree program began in October 1973.
In October 1975, the military government under General Murtala Mohammed established the Unijos as a separate institution.
The first Vice-Chancellor of the Unijos was Professor Gilbert Onuaguluchi. Classes began at the newly reorganized University of Jos in October 1976, with 575 students spreading over the existing four faculties of Arts and Social Sciences, Education, Natural Sciences, and Medical Sciences.
Post-graduate programs were added in 1977. By 1978 Faculties of Law and Environmental Sciences were established, and the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences were separated.
In 2003, the Carnegie Corporation of New York gave Unijos a $2 million grant to form its own fundraising department.
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Mass Communication;
You require; Five (5) SSCE credit passes to include the English Language.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
- UNIJOS and UNN require an ‘O’ Level credit pass in Literature in English
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Mass Communication under the Faculty of Arts & Humanities in the above Universities include;
Any three (3) Arts and Social Science subjects.

JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIJOS for the 2023/2024 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have a score of a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result.
