This is to inform the general public and all aspirants of the University of Calabar that the admission requirements for the Department of Linguistics have been published.
The admission requirements include O’level Subject combinations, JAMB UTME Subject combinations, and School and Departmental Cut-Off Marks.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Linguistics include the following:
- Five (5) SSCE credit passes, including English Language.
Please note: the UTME requirement above is the same for courses like;
- Linguistics
- Communication Studies
- Linguistics and African Language
- Linguistics/Yoruba
- Linguistics and Urhobo
- Linguistics with Igbo/Yoruba
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- English Language and any Language, and two (2) other subjects.

- Linguistics and Urhobo

Direct Entry Requirement For Linguistics
Below is the Direct Entry Requirement for Linguistics:
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes or NCE to include any Language, preferably an African Language.
Please note: the UTME requirement above is the same for courses like;
- Linguistics

- Linguistics/Yoruba

- Linguistics with Igbo/Yoruba
JAMB Score
For any candidate to be admitted to any Department in the University of Calabar, the Candidate must score 150 and above in JAMB.
Conclusions
The University of Calabar is a federal university in Cross River State, Nigeria’s south-south region. In 1975, the university was established.
The university has a very large student and staff population and a diverse student body. All applicants to the university are accepted, regardless of their cultural or religious background. Additionally, there is no restriction on applicants’ ages.
