UNICAL Department of English & Literary Studies Admission Requirement 2023/2024

This is to inform the general public and all aspirants of the University of Calabar that the admission requirements for the Department of English and Literary Studies have been published.

The admission requirements include O’level Subject combinations, JAMB UTME Subject combinations, and School and Departmental Cut-Off Marks.

About The University of Calabar

The University of Calabar is a federal university in Cross River State, Nigeria’s south-south region. In 1975, the university was established.

The university has a very large student and staff population and a diverse student body. All applicants to the university are accepted, regardless of their cultural or religious background. Additionally, there is no restriction on applicants’ ages.

Entry Requirements

O’Level Subject Combination

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study English and Literary Studies include the following: Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:

• Literature-in-English and English Language

Please Note: The UTME Requirement above is the same for courses like;

• English Studies
• Literature-in-English
• English Literature and Language

JAMB UTME Subject Combination

Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB

• English Language
• Literature-in-English, one (1) other Arts subject and another Arts or Social Science subject.

Please Note: The UTME Subject Combination above is the same for courses like;

• English Studies
• Literature-in-English
• English Literature and Language

Direct Entry Requirement For English and Literary Studies

Below is the Direct Entry  Requirement for English and Literary Studies :

• Two (2) ‘A’ level passes to include Literature-in-English and one (1) other Arts subject.

Please Note: The Direct Entry Requirement above is also same for courses like;

• English Studies
• Literature-in-English
• English Literature and Language

JAMB Score

For any candidate to be admitted to any Department in the University of Calabar, the Candidate must score 150 and above in JAMB.
