UNICAL Department of Economics Admission Requirement 2023/2024

This is to inform the general public and all aspirants of the University of Calabar that the admission requirements for the Department of Economics have been published.

About The University of Calabar

The University of Calabar is a federal university in Cross River State, Nigeria’s south-south region. In 1975, the university was established.

The university has a very large student and staff population and a diverse student body. All applicants to the university are accepted, regardless of their cultural or religious background. Additionally, there is no restriction on applicants’ ages.

Entry Requirements

O’Level Subject Combination

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Economics include the following: Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:

• English Language
• Mathematics
• Economics and any two (2) of Arts or Social Science subjects

Please note that the UTME requirement above is the same for the courses below in the faculty of Social/Management Sciences:

• Economics with Statistics
• Economics and Development Studies
• Economics with Operation Research
• Peace and Development Studie
• Criminology and Penology
• Criminology
• Criminology and Security Studies

Direct Entry Requirement For Economics

Below is the Direct Entry Requirement for Economics:

• Two (2) ‘A’ levels pass in Economics and any (1) subjects below:
• Mathematics
• Statistics
• Geography
• Physics
• Chemistry
• Agricultural Science
• Accounting
• Business Management
• History/Government

Please note that the requirement above is the same for the courses below in the faculty of Social/Management Sciences:

• Economics with Statistics,
• Economics and Development Studies,
• Economics with Operation Research,
• Peace and Development Studies,
• Criminology and Penology,
• Criminology,
• Criminology and Security Studies.

JAMB Score

For any candidate to be admitted to any Department in the University of Calabar, the Candidate must score 150 and above in JAMB.
