UNIBEN Department of Sociology and Anthropology Admission Requirement

This article is designed to help students who wish to study  Sociology and Anthropology under the Faculty of Social & Management Sciences in University of Benin  as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in UNIBEN  to  carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

University of Benin is a federal government owned university, funded and managed by the federal government of Nigeria. The university was founded in 1970. University of Benin (UNIBEN) is a research university located in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. The university is one of the oldest in Nigeria and has a very large student and staff population. Resulting in a student staff ratio of about 10:1.The University has a diverse student population with student from different parts of the country and different age brackets. University of Benin courses cut across various levels in agriculture, science, etc. university of Benin admission is extremely competitive as Many candidates apply for admission into the university annually. University of Benin school fees is also very affordable and it provides its students with facilities and infrastructure, they have good hostels, roads electricity etc.The National Universities Commission (NUC) has accredited faculties and departments in the university.

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Sociology and Anthropology;

You require; Five SSCE credit passes in Government or History, English Language and three other subjects. At least a pass in Mathematics is required


(1) EBSU requires ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, History/Government/Economics one science subject and any Arts or social science subject.

(2) OAU accepts Five ‘O’ level credit passes to include Mathematics and History or Economics or Geography

(3) UNIUYO requires at least P.7 in Mathematics

(4) UNN requires five O’ level credit passes which must include English Language, one Science subject, and at least three (3) Arts or Social Science subjects.

(5) ESUTECH requires a credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Government and any two Arts or Social Science subjects.

(6) UNIBEN requires five ‘O’ level credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics and any two Social Science subjects.

(7) OAU requires English Language, Mathematics and at least two Social Science and ones Arts subject.


In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Sociology and Anthropology under the Faculty of Social & Management Sciences in the above Universities include;

Government or History plus two other Social Science/Arts subjects

(1) UNIBEN accepts two Social Science subjects and any other subject.

(2) OAU requires Mathematics, Economics and Geography or Government.

(3) EBSU requires Government/History plus two other social science/Arts subject.

(4) ESUTECH requires Government


These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Sociology and Anthropology, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require; Three Social Science or Arts Subjects


(1) UNN accepts two A’ level passes in Social Sciences or Arts subjects in addition to UTME requirements.

(2) UNIBEN requires two ‘A’ level passes including any Social Science subject; ND (Upper Credit)/HND (Lower Credit) in relevant Social Science disciplines such as public Administration, Mass Communication; NCE (overall merit) with credit pass in relevant Social Science subject. Direct Entry candidates must satisfy UTME requirements.

(3) EBSU accepts HND, NCE and ND with a minimum of Merit and Upper credit respectively in relevant fields.

(4) UNIUYO accepts ND/HND/NCE in relevant fields plus UTME requirements.

(5) OAU O’ level credit passes from English language, Mathematics and any three subjects from Economics, Geography, Government, Biology and Chemistry.

(6) OAU accepts Two ‘A’ level passes in subjects such as Economics, Geography, Government , History

(7) NDU accepts:
a. Two ‘A’ level passes in Government, Economics, Religious Knowledge, Geography, and History.
b. National Diploma in related area, provided such diploma is passed at upper credit level.
c. N.C.E. in related area at credit level.

(8) ESUTECH requires two A’ level passes including Government or History plus UTME requirements. Accepts ND in Social Work/Development and Administration, with at least a merit pass plus UTME requirem

.JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIBEN for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result.
