UNIBEN Department of English Language and Literature Admission Requirement

This article is designed to help students who wish to study English Language and Literature under the Faculty of Arts & Humanities in University of Benin  as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in UNIBEN  to  carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

University of Benin is a federal government owned university, funded and managed by the federal government of Nigeria. The university was founded in 1970. University of Benin (UNIBEN) is a research university located in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. The university is one of the oldest in Nigeria and has a very large student and staff population. Resulting in a student staff ratio of about 10:1.The University has a diverse student population with student from different parts of the country and different age brackets. University of Benin courses cut across various levels in agriculture, science, etc. university of Benin admission is extremely competitive as Many candidates apply for admission into the university annually. University of Benin school fees is also very affordable and it provides its students with facilities and infrastructure, they have good hostels, roads electricity etc.The National Universities Commission (NUC) has accredited faculties and departments in the university.

O’LEVEL SUBJECT COMBINATION

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study English Language and Literature;

You require;

Five (5) SSCE credit passes to include Literature in English, English Language and three other Arts or Social Science subjects.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i) EBSU  requires ‘O’ level credit passes in Mathematics and two (2) other Arts or Social Science subjects.

(ii) AUN accepts
a) ‘A’ level passes to include Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Government, History, Literature in English, Technical Drawing, Visual Arts, Computer Studies, Information Technology, Civics, Environmental Science, Biology, Physics, Chemistry and French.
b) ND/HND c) ICGSE and ‘A’ level Cambridge

(iii) AUN does not accept five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in the following; Agriculture, Food and Nutrition, Home Economics, Home Craft, Home management, Physical Education, Physical and Health Education, Music, Commerce, Accounting, Financial Accounting, Book keeping, Islamic History, Religious Studies, Tajweed, Library Studies, Diction, Kiswahili, Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, Arabic, Turkish, Study skills.

(iv) AUN does not offer admissions direct to 200 level and may transfer credits relevant to it’s major at the discretion of the Dean of School.

(v) UNIBEN accepts TCII merit.

(vi) UI requires five (5) or six (6) ‘O’ level credit passes at one (1) or two (2) sittings to include Literature in English, English Language, one (1) other Arts subject and any other two (2) or three (3) subjects from Arts, Social Sciences or Science.

(vii) NTNU accepts any Arts/Social Science subjects.

JAMB SUBJECT COMBINATION

In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study English Language and Literature under the Faculty of Arts & Humanities in the above Universities include;

Literature in English, one other Arts subject and another Arts or Social Science subject.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i) EBSU requires any two (2) of History, CRS, Government, French etc as the other subjects.

(ii) NTNU accepts any three (3) Arts or Social Science subjects

DIRECT ENTRY REQUIREMENT

These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study English Language and Literature, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;

Two (2) ‘A’ level passes to include Literature in English and one (1) other Arts subject.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i) EBSU accepts NCE merit in English Language.

(ii) EBSU accepts NCE merit or ND credit in relevant

(iii) UNIBEN accepts NCE credit in English Language as main subject

(iv) UI  NCE merit in two (2) teaching subjects including Literature in English (not General English) along with the UTME requirements. It also accepts two (2) ‘A’ level passes to include Literature in English.

(v) NTNU accepts any two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Arts or Social Science subjects, ND/HND lower credit or NCE merit in relevant programmes/subjects.

(vi) UNIZIK accepts NCE with English Language major, candidates to spend one extra year in UNIZIK.

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIBEN for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result.
