UNIABUJA Department of Philosophy Admission Requirement

This article is designed to help students who wish to study Philosophy Faculty of  Arts and Humanities   in University of Abuja (UNIABUJA)  as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in UNIABUJA  to  carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

The University of Abuja is a tertiary institution in the Nigerian capital Abuja. It was established on January 1, 1988 (under Decree No. 110 of 1992 as amended) as a dual-mode university with the mandate to run conventional and distance learning programmes. Academic work began in the University in 1990 with the matriculation of its pioneer students.

The university runs regular degree, diploma, and postgraduate programmes. Due to its location in the Federal Capital Territory has a Centre for Distance Learning School which provides university education to those who cannot acquire such education through the regular university system and those interested in acquiring new knowledge and specialized skills.

O’LEVEL SUBJECT COMBINATION

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Philosophy;

You require;

Five (5) SSCE credit passes to include English language and four (4) other relevant subjects.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i) AAUA requires ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, one (1)Arts subject and two (2) other relevant subjects.

(ii) UNIBEN requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes or five (5) Merit passes in TC II at not more than two (2) sittings. Subjects should include English Language and any two (2) other subjects from Arts or Social Sciences. At least ‘O’ level pass in Mathematics is required.

(iii) BOWEN requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes to include English Language and any two (2) other subjects from Arts, Social Sciences or Sciences. ‘O’ level pass in Mathematics or Physics is required.

(iv) BSU requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in Social Sciences including English Language.

(v) EBSU requires
a) for Philosophy, five (5) `O` level credit passesto include English Language Mathematics, at a maximum of two (2) sittings. A pass in two (2) principal subjects at the NCE.
b) for Religion requires five `O` level credit passes ata maximum of two (2) sittings and which must include English Language, Mathematics, Religious studies and passes in two (2) principal subjects at the NCE.

(vi) FED-LAFIA requires ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Literature in English and any other relevant subjects.

(vii) UNI-IBADAN and UNILAG requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes to include English Language and one (1)Arts subject.

(viii) UNILAG requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, one (1)Arts and any two (2) Social Sciences and Science. Civic Education is also accepted.

(ix) NDU requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language and any other four (4) subjects, two (2) of Arts and two (2) Social Sciences.

(x) OAU requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes to include English Language, one (1) Arts subject and ‘O’ level pass in Mathematics.

(xi) OOU, UNI-IBADAN, AAU, OAU, KSU, and IMSU require at least ‘O’ level pass in Mathematics.

(xii) UNIPORT requires a credit pass in Mathematics.

(xiii) UHIELE requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes to include English Language, and any two (2) other Arts or Social Science subjects. at least ‘O’ level pass in Mathematics. Candidates MUST be sponsored by a Catholic Diocese

(xiv) UNIUYO requires ‘O’ level credit pass in one (1) Science subject and at least ‘O’ level pass in Mathematics.

JAMB SUBJECT COMBINATION

In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Philosophy under the Faculty of Arts & Humanities in the above Universities include;

Any three (3) subjects.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i) AAU, AAUA and OAU require at least one (1)Arts subject.

(ii) AUGUSTINE requires any three (3) Arts subjects.

(iii) BOWEN and SAU require Government or History plus any other Arts subjects.

(iv) EBSU requires Mathematics.

(v) FED-LAFIA Literature in English, CRS/IS and any other relevant subject.

(vi) IBADAN requires one (1) Arts subject and any two (2) subjects from Arts, Social Sciences or Sciences

(vii) UNILAG requires one (1) Arts and any two (2) Arts, Social Sciences or Sciences.

DIRECT ENTRY REQUIREMENT

These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Philosophy, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;

Any two (2) ‘A’ level passes.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i) AAU accepts three (3) A’ level passes with two (2) ‘O’ level credit passes or two (2) ‘A’ level passes with three (3) ‘O’ level credit passes.

(ii) AAUA requires two (2) ‘A’ level subjects or ND in Law, Religious Studies or Philosophy from approved Institutions or NCE merit.

(iii) AUGUSTINE accepts NCE merit/ND credit in relevant subjects/programme in addition to five (5)’O’ level credit passesor equivalent.

(iv) UNIBEN accepts
a) an overall NCE credit in the Liberal Arts.
b) fIrst degree in any programme.
c) ND or HND upper credit in Mass Communication.

(v) BOWEN accepts two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Philosophy and any other subject.

(vi) BSU accepts NCE/’A’ level passes including CRS, African Religion or its equivalent.

(vii) UNICAL accepts any two (2) ‘A’ level passes in relevant subject.

(viii) UNI-IBADAN requires two (2) ‘A’ level passes in one Arts subject and any other Arts/Social Sciences /Sciences subject.

(ix) IMSU, UNIPORT and EKSU -No Direct Entry.

(x) UNILAG requires very good passes in three (3) JUPEB/’A’ level subjects
a) any three (3) of Literature in English, Igbo/Yoruba, CRS/IS, French, History, Economics, Government, Chemistry, Physics, Biology but at least one (1) Arts subject.
b) related programmes with a minimum of 55% average score
c) NCE credit in two (2) teaching subjects one (1) of which must be Arts subject.
d) candidates must also satisfy the UTME requirements.

(xi) NDU accepts
a) a minimum of two (2)’A’ level relevant subjects and three (3)’O’ level subjects including ‘O’ level pass in Mathematics.
b) NCE merit in any Arts or Science subjects, especially Mathematics.

(xii) OAU requires one (1) of the two (2) ‘A’ level to be an Arts subject.

(xiii) OOU and EBSU require ‘O’ level pass in Mathematics.

(xiv) SAU accepts two (2) ‘A’ level subjects to include Government and any other two (2) Arts subjects or at NCE in Government or History.

(xv) UNIUYO requires passes two (2) ‘A’ level subjects or ND or NCE in cognate programme/subject, at credit/merit level.

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIABUJA  for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 180 or above in your JAMB result.
