UNIABUJA Department of Islamic Studies Admission Requirement

This article is designed to help students who wish to study Islamic Studies Faculty of Arts and Humanities in University of Abuja (UNIABUJA)  as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in UNIABUJA  to  carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

The University of Abuja is a tertiary institution in the Nigerian capital Abuja. It was established on January 1, 1988 (under Decree No. 110 of 1992 as amended) as a dual-mode university with the mandate to run conventional and distance learning programmes. Academic work began in the University in 1990 with the matriculation of its pioneer students.

The university runs regular degree, diploma, and postgraduate programmes. Due to its location in the Federal Capital Territory has a Centre for Distance Learning School which provides university education to those who cannot acquire such education through the regular university system and those interested in acquiring new knowledge and specialized skills.

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Islamic Studies;

You require;

Five (5) SSCE credit passes to include English Language and Islamic Studies or Arabic and any three (3) relevant subjects.


(i) AL-HIKMAH requires working knowledge of Arabic.

(ii) UNI-IBADAN accepts five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes at one (1) sitting or six (6) ‘O’ level credit passes at two (2) sittings to include English Language, Islamic Studies and any other three (3) or four (4) subjects from Arts or Social Sciences.

(iii) KASU may accept Higher Islamic Studies or Senior Islamic Studies Results.

(iv) KWASU requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes to include English, Islamic Studies and any other two (2) Arts subjects.

(v) OOU requires two (2) other subjects from Arts.

(vi) TSUJ accepts Arabic in lieu of Islamic Studies.

(vii) UMYUK requires five (5) credit passes at ‘O’ level including English Language, Islamic Studies and three (3) other relevant Arts/Social Sciencesubjects with ‘O’ level credit pass in Mathematics. Accepts Higher Islamic Studies or Senior Islamic Studies results.


In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Islamic Studies under the Faculty of Arts & Humanities in the above Universities include;

Islamic Studies plus two (2) other Arts subjects.


(i) UNI-IBADAN requires IS and any other two (2) subjects from Arts, Sciences or Social Sciences.

(ii) UNILORIN accepts Science/ Social Science subjects


These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Islamic Studies, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;

Two (2) ‘A’ level passes to include Islamic Studies.


(i) UNIABUJA accepts a minimum of ten (10) points in NCE merit or ND upper credit in addition to UTME requirements.

(ii) UNILORIN accepts
a) ND from Bayero University, Kano satisfies both ‘A’ level and ‘O’ level admission requirements.
b) candidates who do not offer IS at UTME but meet UTME entry requirements may be considered for admission into 100 level.
c) candidates with Senior IS Certificates as entry qualification for IS and related programmes.

(iii) KWASU requires five (5) ‘O’ levelcredit passes in English Language, Arabic, IS, plus any other two (2) Arts subjects. A certificate from a recognized Arabic school will be acceptable in lieu of ‘O’ level credit pass in Arabic.

(iv) LASU accepts
a) at least two (2)’A’ level passes, including IS plus not less than five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes or its equivalent, including English Language at not more than two (2) sittings.
b) NCE merit IS and five (5)’O’ level credit passes in other relevant subjects including English Language.

(v) OOU requires UTME requirements in addition to Direct Entry requirements

(vi) SOSU and IBADAN accept NCE merit in IS and other Arts or Social Science subjects.

(vii) TSUJ accepts NCE merit in Arabic and Islamic Studies

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIABUJA  for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 180 or above in your JAMB result.
