UNIABUJA Department of English & Literary Studies Admission Requirement

This article is designed to help students who wish to study  English and Literary Studies Faculty of Arts and Humanities in University of Abuja (UNIABUJA)  as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in UNIABUJA  to  carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

The University of Abuja is a tertiary institution in the Nigerian capital Abuja. It was established on January 1, 1988 (under Decree No. 110 of 1992 as amended) as a dual-mode university with the mandate to run conventional and distance learning programmes. Academic work began in the University in 1990 with the matriculation of its pioneer students.

The university runs regular degree, diploma, and postgraduate programmes. Due to its location in the Federal Capital Territory has a Centre for Distance Learning School which provides university education to those who cannot acquire such education through the regular university system and those interested in acquiring new knowledge and specialized skills.

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study English and Literary Studies;

You require;

Five (5) SSCE credit passes to include Literature in English and English Language.


(i) FED-OYEEKITI also requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit pass in one Science subject and at least a pass in Mathematics

(ii) KSU requires five (5)‘O’ level credit passes to include English Language, Literature in English and three (3)other subjects in Arts or Social Sciences.

(iii) NDU requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Literature in English and any other three (3) subjects, two (2) of which must be Arts subjects.

(iv) UNN requires a Science subject.


In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study English and Literary Studies under the Faculty of Arts & Humanities in the above Universities include;

Literature in English, one (1) other Arts subject and another Arts or Social Science subjects.


These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study English and Literary Studies, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;

Two (2) ‘A’ level passes to include Literature in English and one (1) other Arts subject.


(i) ABUJA –same as English Language.

(ii) CALABAR accepts NCE with English Literature as the teaching subject.

(iii) NDU requires pass in Literature in English at the ‘A’ level or NCE merit and a pass in at least anyArts subject.

(iv) UNN accepts NCE merit in English Language in addition to the UTME requirements.

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIABUJA  for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 180 or above in your JAMB result.
