SSU Department of Islamic Studies Admission Requirement

This article is designed to help students who wish to study Islamic Studies under the Faculty of Arts & Humanities in Sokoto State University as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in SSU  to  carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

Arising from the insatiable quest of the people of the state for education and excellence, the idea of establishing the Sokoto State University was conceived by the then Sokoto State Governor Aliyu Wamakko when he established the Sokoto State University Implementation Committee in 2008. The committee was charged with the responsibility of:

Planning for the structure and facilities for the effective running of the universityseeking for and obtaining approval from the Federal Government for Sokoto state to run its own university aside, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, which is Federal Government owned and in which the indigenes of the state were marginally placed over the years arising from the Federal Character Principle; and

establishing the Sokoto State University School of Developmental Studies with the sole aim of preparing students, a one-year pre-degree programme before enrolling into the university.

The approval was granted in 2009

HOW TO CALCULATE SSU POST UTME/AGGREAGE SCORE FOR ALL COURSES

O’LEVEL SUBJECT COMBINATION

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Islamic Studies;

You require;

Five (5) SSCE credit passes to include English Language and Islamic Studies or Arabic and any three (3) relevant subjects.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i) AL-HIKMAH requires working knowledge of Arabic. (ii) IBADAN accepts five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes at one sitting or six (6) ‘O’ Level credit passes at two (2) sittings to include English Language, Islamic Studies and any other three (3) or four (4) subjects from Arts or Social Sciences.

(iii) KASU requires Five ‘O’ level credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Islamic Religious Knowledge and two other subjects in Arts or Social Sciences..

(iv) KWASU requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes to include English Language, Islamic Studies and any other two (2) Arts subjects.

(v) OOU requires two (2) other subjects from Arts.

(vi) TASU  accepts Arabic in lieu of Islamic Studies.

(vii) UMYU requires five (5) credit passes at SSC, HIS and SIS in English Language, Mathematics, Islamic Studies and any other two (2) Arts or Social Science subjects at not more than two (2) sittings.

(viii) UNILAG requires Five Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Islamic Studies and any other two subjects.

(ix) FUK requires Five credit passes at SSCE (or its equivalent) in English, Mathematics, Islamic Studies and any two of Hausa, Arabic, History, Literature in English, Economics, Government, Civic Education, Commerce.

(x) SSU requires Five (5) SSC credit passes to include English Language, Arabic or Islamic Studies and any other three (3) relevant subjects at not more than two sittings.

(xi) FUDMA requires Five ‘O’ level Credits to include: English Language, Mathematics, Islamic Studies and any two of Arts or Social Sciences subjects.

JAMB SUBJECT COMBINATION

In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Islamic Studies under the Faculty of Arts & Humanities in the above Universities include;

Islamic Studies plus two (2) other Arts subjects.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i) UI requires Islamic Studies and any other two (2) subjects from Arts, Sciences or Social Sciences.

(ii) UNILORIN accepts Science/ Social Science subjects.

(iii) UNIMAID requires Islamic Studies/Arabic and any other two (2) subjects.

(iv) UMYU requires Islamic Studies and two (2) other Arts or Social Science subjects.

(v) UNILAG requires English Language, Islamic Studies and any two from Literature in English, History, Government, French, Yoruba, Igbo, Visual Arts, Economics and Commerce.

(vi) FUK requires IRS and any two of Hausa, Arabic, Government, Economics, Literature in English and History

(vii) KASU requires Islamic Religious Knowledge and two other subjects in Arts or Social sciences.

(viii) SSU requires Islamic Studies and any two Arts or Social Science Subjects.

(ix) FUDMA requires English Language, Islamic Studies and any two subjects of Arts or Social Sciences.

DIRECT ENTRY REQUIREMENT

These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Islamic Studies, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;Two (2) ‘A’ level passes to include Islamic Studies.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i) UNIABUJA accepts a minimum of ten (10) points in NCE merit or ND upper credit in addition to UTME requirements.

(ii) UNILORIN accepts:
a) Diploma from Bayero University, Kano satisfies both ‘A’ Level and ‘O’ Level admissions requirements.
b) Candidates who did not offer Islamic Studies at UTME but meet UTME entry requirements may be considered for admission into 100 level.
c) Candidates with Senior Islamic Studies Certificates as entry qualification for Islamic Studies and related programmes.

(iii) KWASU -Same as in Arabic.

(iv) LASU accepts:
a) at least two (2) ‘A’ Level passes, including Islamic Studies plus not less than five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes or its equivalent, including English Language at not more than two (2) sittings.
b) NCE merit in Islamic Studies and five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in other relevant subjects including English Language.

(v) OOU requires UTME requirements in addition to Direct Entry requirements

(vi) UI accept NCE merit in Islamic Studies and other Arts or Social Science subjects.

(vii) TASU accepts NCE merit in Arabic and Islamic Studies.

(viii) UMYU accepts candidates with a minimum of 9 points in IJMB/HSC/GCE ‘A’ Level/NCE in Islamic Studies and any other relevant subject. Candidates with a minimum of lower credit pass in Diploma in Islamic Studies, Combined Arabic and Islamic Studies or in Shari’a from recognized institutions may also be admitted.

(ix) UNILAG accepts Passes at the GCE A/level or its equivalents. One of the A/level Subjects should be Islamic Studies. NCE with credit or merit in Islamic Studies.

(x) FUK accepts Two ‘A’ Level credit passes in Islamic Studies and any other relevant subject or NCE/Dip with credit passes in relevant subjects.

(xi) KASU accepts Two ‘A’ Level passes including Islamic Studies and one other relevant subject.NCE/Senior Islamic Studies Certificate with merit in Islamic Religious Knowledge and other relevant subjects. IJMB 7 points and above or Lower Credit in National Diploma in addition to ‘O’ Level requirements.

(xii) SSU accepts NCE/Diploma in Arabic and Islamic Studies or Diploma in Shari’ah with a minimum of merit

(xiii) FUDMA accepts Two ‘A’ level passes in Islamic Studies and one other Arts Subjects. ND/NCE with good grades in the relevant area.​​​​​​​

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into SSU for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have score a minimum of  160 and above in your JAMB result.
