SSU Department of Education and Computer Science Admission Requirement

This article is designed to help students who wish to study Education and Computer Science under the Faculty of Educationin Sokoto State University as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in SSU  to  carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

Arising from the insatiable quest of the people of the state for education and excellence, the idea of establishing the Sokoto State University was conceived by the then Sokoto State Governor Aliyu Wamakko when he established the Sokoto State University Implementation Committee in 2008. The committee was charged with the responsibility of:

Planning for the structure and facilities for the effective running of the universityseeking for and obtaining approval from the Federal Government for Sokoto state to run its own university aside, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, which is Federal Government owned and in which the indigenes of the state were marginally placed over the years arising from the Federal Character Principle; and

establishing the Sokoto State University School of Developmental Studies with the sole aim of preparing students, a one-year pre-degree programme before enrolling into the university.

The approval was granted in 2009

HOW TO CALCULATE SSU POST UTME/AGGREAGE SCORE FOR ALL COURSES

O’LEVEL SUBJECT COMBINATION

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Education and Computer Science;

You require;

Five (5) SSC credit passes or its equivalents including Mathematics, English Language and three (3) other Science subjects.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i)   OOU require ‘O’ Level credit pass in Physics.

(ii)  IAUE requires ‘O’ Level credit pass in English Language.

(iii)     IBBU prefers other subjects in the Sciences.

(iv)   UNIPORT require ‘O’ Level credit pass in Physics or Chemistry.

(v)      LASU requires ‘O’ Level credit passes in Physics and Chemistry.

(vi)     BIU require ‘O’ Level credit passes in Physics and any other two (2) Science subjects.

(vii)    DELSU requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes which must include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other one subject at not more than two (2) sittings.

(viii) TASUED requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes at one(1) sitting or six (6) ‘O’ Level credit passes at two (2) sittings to include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, and any two (2) or three (3) subjects from Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Geography and Agricultural Science.

(ix) BSU requires five credits ‘O’ Level Passes including: Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

(x)   LCU accepts ‘O’ Level credit passes at SSC or its equivalent in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any other two (2) subjects.

(xi) SSU requires Five (5) SSC credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Physics and two (2) other relevant science subjects at not more than two sittings.

JAMB SUBJECT COMBINATION

In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Education and Computer Science under the Faculty of Education in the above Universities include;

Mathematics, Physics and one of Biology, Chemistry and Geography.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i)  IAUE requires Economics.

(ii)    LASU requires Chemistry.

(iii) TASUED requires Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

(iv) DELSU accepts Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Economics.

(v) BSU requires Mathematics, Physics and any one of Biology, Chemistry, Economics or Geography.

(vi) UNILORIN requires Mathematics and any other two (2) of Physics, Chemistry, and Computer Studies.

(vii) UNIPORT requires Mathematics and any other two (2) subjects from Biology, Agricultural Science, Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry.

(viii) SSU requires Mathematics, Physics and one of Biology, Chemistry and Geography.

DIRECT ENTRY REQUIREMENT

These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Education and Computer Science, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;

Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes including Physics or Chemistry.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i)    OOU accepts ND/NCE credit in relevant programme.

(ii)   UNIBEN and EKSU accept NCE candidates with credits in ‘O’ Level Mathematics; ND holders must fulfill the UTME requirements.

(iii) IAUE requires two (2) ‘A’ Level passes/NCE in Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics. IAUE accepts ND/HND credit in Computer Science, Statistics, Information Technology and Electronics/Accounting.

(iv)    EKSU accepts NCE merit in Computer and a pass in General English in lieu of ‘O’ Level English Language.

(v)    LASU accepts ‘A’ Level passes in Mathematics and Physics; or NCE at merit in Computer   Education or Physics and Mathematics; OR Equivalents of the above.

(vi)   BIU requires in addition to the ‘O’ Level requirements specified, a minimum of two (2) relevant subjects passed at ‘A’ Level or NCE three (3) merits or ND credit in relevant programme.

(vii)   TASUED accepts two (2)   ‘A’ Level passes in Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics.

(viii) EBSU requires     a) two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Computer, Mathematics or Integrated Science. b) HND and NCE/OND with minimum of Merit and Upper credit respectively.

(ix) BSU accepts: (a) Preliminary degree candidates (from Benue State University only). Must pass at least five (5) out of the six (6) subjects studies with pass level of at least 50% in each subject. (b) NCE use of English is acceptable in lieu of ‘O’ Level in English language. (c) ‘A’ Level pass in any of the acceptable subjects. (d) IJMB/GCE ‘A’ Level or Equivalent in Physics and Mathematics. (e) ND (Computer science) or Diploma in Computer education at upper credits from a recognized institution. (f) At least a merit in NCE (Computer Education) plus credit in Mathematics or Physics and a credit in English Language at SSC or its equivalent.

(x) SSU also accepts:  a.  NCE with passes in Computer Science and any other Science subject (Physics, Biology, Mathematics or Computer Science) or a double major along with the  UTME requirements. b.  IJMB passes in Computer Science and one (1) Science subject, Physics, Biology, Mathematics or Chemistry with UTME requirements. c.  ND/HND credit level in Computer Science or any relevant subject into 100 Level.

(xi) DELSU requires at least merit pass and above in NCE and above in DELSU Diploma in Computer Science Education, Physics Education, Mathematics Education or Chemistry Education.

(xii) UNIPORT accepts Two (2) A/level GCE or HSC or JUPEB or IJMB passes in the relevant subjects including UTME entry requirements. NCE with Credit passes in the relevant subjects including UTME entry requirements.

(xiii) UNILORIN accepts; a)Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) or its equivalent in Computer Science (single or double major) with an overall grade of at least a Merit. b)Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Computer Science with a minimum overall grade of Lower Credit. c)Passes at A ‘Level of G.C.E. or equivalent in Mathematics plus at least one of the following subjects: Physics, Further Mathematics and Chemistry, Computer Studies or Data Processing. d)Any three (3) relevant subjects in IJMB and JUPEB.

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into SSU for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have score a minimum of  160 and above in your JAMB result.
