This article is designed to help students who wish to study Hospitality Management Faculty of Social and Management Sciences Federal Polytechnic, Oko (OKOPOLY) as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in OKOPOLY to carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.
The polytechnic is situated within Oko town in Orumba North Local Government of Anambra State. The kernel of what eventually became the polytechnic was the brain child of the Oko Progressive Union (OPU) greatly catalysed by the patronage, resourcefulness and result oriented leadership of its pioneer chairman, a former Executive Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Alex Ekwueme.
The institution is strategically located and surrounded by several centres of industries, commerce and diverse local crafts such as Awka (well known for blacksmith/iron works), Nnewi (Industry and technological products) and Onitsha and Aba (reputed for Commerce and Industries). The climatic condition of the host community, Ok ranges between 28 and 42 degrees centigrade. It is one of the fastest developing tertiary institutions in Nigeria with high futuristic disposition. It has functional memorandum of understanding with different universities within and outside the country. The Polytechnic has three campuses.
- The main campus at Oko which occupies a total land area of 89 hectres.
- Ufuma campus: This occupies a total land area of 52 hectres.
- Atani campus: This occupies a total area of 40 hectres.
To study Hospitality Management candidates must meet the following requirements.
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Hospitality Management;
You require; Biology/Agricultural Science,
any three of the following:
Food and Nutrition,
At least credit passes in English Language and Chemistry are compulsory.
In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Hospitality Management under the Faculty of Social & Management Sciences in the above Universities include;
Biology/Agricultural Science and two of
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Hospitality Management, if you don’t intend to use UTME.
You require; a) RUGIPO accepts any other subject in addition to two of the listed subject in course requirement.
b) YABATECH requires five O/L credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology/Agric. Science, Geography and any two of the following Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Geography, Food and Nutrition/Home Management, Government/ Commerce/Accounting.
c) WAVECREST is not co-educational and admits only female candidates. It requires FIVE O/L credits in Biology or Agricultural Science and any FOUR of the following Physics, Chemistry, Economics/Commerce/Accounting/Government, Geography, Food and Nutrition/Home Management, English Language Mathematics. At least credit passes in English Language and Mathematics are compulsory.
d) PLA-POLY requires O/L credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry , Biology/Agric. Sci, Economics, Health Science, Food & Nutrition, Geography
e) KWARA-POLY accepts Basic Electricity, Health Science, Basic Catering & Food Service, Hotel & Catering Craft Service (Cookery), Hotel & Catering Craft Service (Food & Drinks Service) as course requirements, but Chemistry is not compulsory as a requirement for the course.
(f) RUGIPO credit pass in Chemistry is not compulsory.
(g) EDE-POLY requires credit passes in Chemistry and does not accept Technical drawing Nigerian language, Home Economics
(h) ILARO-POLY requires a credit pass in Chemistry.
(i) AKANU-POLY requires credit passes in Biology/Agricultural Science, Chemistry and any three of Geography, Food and Nutrition, Physics and Economics. It does not accept Economics as UTME subject
(j) AUCHI-POLY requires credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology/Agric, Geography, any other subject and at least a pass in Chemistry.
k) MAPOLY requires four credits at one sitting or five credits at not more than two sittings to include English Language and Biology/Agricultural Science with at least a pass in Mathematics
All candidates interested in getting admitted into Federal Polytechnic, Oko for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 100 or above in your JAMB result.
