This article is designed to help students who wish to study Food Technology Faculty of Engineering, Environment and Technology in Federal Polytechnic, Oko (OKOPOLY) as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in OKOPOLY to carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.
The polytechnic is situated within Oko town in Orumba North Local Government of Anambra State. The kernel of what eventually became the polytechnic was the brain child of the Oko Progressive Union (OPU) greatly catalysed by the patronage, resourcefulness and result oriented leadership of its pioneer chairman, a former Executive Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Alex Ekwueme.
The institution is strategically located and surrounded by several centres of industries, commerce and diverse local crafts such as Awka (well known for blacksmith/iron works), Nnewi (Industry and technological products) and Onitsha and Aba (reputed for Commerce and Industries). The climatic condition of the host community, Ok ranges between 28 and 42 degrees centigrade. It is one of the fastest developing tertiary institutions in Nigeria with high futuristic disposition. It has functional memorandum of understanding with different universities within and outside the country. The Polytechnic has three campuses.
- The main campus at Oko which occupies a total land area of 89 hectares.
- Ufuma campus: This occupies a total land area of 52 hectares.
- Atani campus: This occupies a total area of 40 hectares.
To study Food Technology candidates must meet the following requirements.
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Food Technology;
- You require; 1. Mathematics,
- Chemistry and
- Biology/Agricultural
- Science/Health Science.
And any two of the following:
- Physics, Technical Drawing,
- Economics/Commerce,
- English Language,
- Additional/Further Mathematics,Home Economics,
- Food and Nutrition,Geography plus at least credit
- passes in Physics and English Language.
Jamb Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Food Technology under the Faculty of Engineering, Environment & Technology in the above Universities include;
Biology/Agricultural Science and any two of the
following:
- Physics,
- Chemistry,
- Mathematics and
- Economics
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Food Technology, if you don’t intend to use UTME.
You require; a) IBADANPOLY, GIWAPOLY, ADOPOLY, OSPOLY and LASPOTECH require credit in Mathematics.
Ibadanpoly
Requires 5 credits at not more than
two sittings including Mathematics and at least a pass in Physics.
Ilaropoly
Requires a credit pass in Mathematics and at least a pass in Physics.
Ibadanpoly
And FEDPOILA does not accept
Economics as UTME subject.
Nubapoly
Offers it as Food Science and Technology.
Offapoly
Accepts at least a pass in English Language and Physics.
Yabatech and Akanupoly
Requires five credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science and any one of the following; Physics, Additional Mathematics, Economics, Food Nutrition, Statistics and at least a pass in Physics. Also does not accept Economics as
UTME subject.
Ibadanpoly
Requires Chemistry as one of the UTME subjects.
Okopoly
Requires a credit in Mathematics, English
Language Statistics,Further Mathematics,Food and Nutrition/Hotel Catering, Basic electricity, Geography
Nekedepoly
And RUGIPO require at least a pass
in English Language and Physics.
Fcat-Kano
(a) accept Candidates who have successfully completed NBTE recognized Pre – National Diploma (Science and Technology) course at credit level may be admitted into the programme. Such students must have at least pass grades in Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and one other subject chosen from Physics, Economics,Food and Nutrition, Geography in WASC or GCE ‘O’ level before undertaking the course.
(b) do not accept the combination of two different examination bodies at SSCE O’level (it is either NECO
– NECO or WAEC –WAEC).
lfedpo – Bau
Accepts chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and any one of the following; Physics, Economics, Geography.
Ospoly
Requires credit passes in two basic Sciences, Geography,Economics/Commerce.
Imopoly
Accepts five credits from SSCE/GCE
i/c subjects: English Language, Mathematics,
Chemistry, Biology/Agric. Science/Health
Science and any one from the following:
- Biology/Health
- Science/Agric. Sci
- Physics,
- Economics/Commerce,
- Additional/Further
- Mathematics
- Home Economic,
- Food and Nutrition,
- Geography and A pass in Physics is accepted.
Mapoly
requires five credits in not more than two sittings to include credit in Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology/Agricultural Science with a minimum of pass in Physics and English Language.
Deltapoly
Accepts a pass in Physics.
Fideipoly
- Accepts five credits from SSCIE/GCE subjects.
- The subjects are to include,
- Mathematics,
- Chemistry,
- Biology/Agric.
- Science/Health Science,
- Economics/Commerce,
- Additional/Further Maths, Statistics, Home 7.Economics,Food and Nutrition/Hotel Catering and Geography. A pass in English and Physics is accepted.
Jamb Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into Federal Polytechnic, Oko for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 100 or above in your JAMB result.
