OAU Department of Literature in English Admission Requirement

This article is designed to help students who wish to study Literature in English   under the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU)  as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in   to  carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), formerly known as University of Ife, is a federal government  owned and operated Nigerian university. The university is in the ancient city of Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. The university was founded in 1961 and classes commenced in October 1962 as the University of Ife by the regional government of Western Nigeria, led by late chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola, and was renamed Obafemi Awolowo University on 12 May 1987 in honour of Chief Obafemi Awolowo (1909–1987), first premier of the Western Region of Nigeria, whose brainchild the university was

Obafemi Awolowo University offers undergraduate and post-graduate programmes in fields of specialization spanning the humanities, the arts, the natural sciences, the social sciences, the medical sciences, engineering and technology.

The university has 13 faculties  and two colleges  the Postgraduate College and the College of Health Sciences — administered in more than 60 departments. It was previously associated with Loma Linda University in California, USA.

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Literature in English;

You require;

Five (5) SSCE credit passes to include Literature in English and English Language.


(i) CHRISTOPHER – Maximum of two (2) sittings

(ii) ABU requires five (5)‘O’ level credit passes to include English Language, Literature in English and three (3)other subjects in Arts or Social Sciences


In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Literature in English under the Faculty of Arts & Humanities in the above Universities include;

Literature in English, one (1) other Arts subject and another Arts or Social Science subjects.


(i) ABU requires Literature in English and two (2) other subjects in Arts or Social Sciences.


These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Literature in English, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;

Two (2) ‘A’ level passes to include Literature in English and one (1) other Arts subject.


(i) ABU accepts
a) two (2) ‘A’ level passes including English Language at IJMB/NCE.
b) General English/Use of English at NCE satisfiesthe UTMEEnglish requirements.

(ii) OAU same as in English Language.

(iii) UNIOSUN accepts two (2) ‘A’ level passes to include Literature in English and other Artssubjects or NCE in English/Political Science

(iv) CHRISTOPHER accepts HND, ND or NCE with credit passes in the relevant programmes/subjects.

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into OAU for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 200  or above in your JAMB result.
