OAU Department of History Admission Requirement

This article is designed to help students who wish to study History under the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU)  as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in   to  carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), formerly known as University of Ife, is a federal government  owned and operated Nigerian university. The university is in the ancient city of Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. The university was founded in 1961 and classes commenced in October 1962 as the University of Ife by the regional government of Western Nigeria, led by late chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola, and was renamed Obafemi Awolowo University on 12 May 1987 in honour of Chief Obafemi Awolowo (1909–1987), first premier of the Western Region of Nigeria, whose brainchild the university was

Obafemi Awolowo University offers undergraduate and post-graduate programmes in fields of specialization spanning the humanities, the arts, the natural sciences, the social sciences, the medical sciences, engineering and technology.

The university has 13 faculties  and two colleges  the Postgraduate College and the College of Health Sciences — administered in more than 60 departments. It was previously associated with Loma Linda University in California, USA.

O’LEVEL SUBJECT COMBINATION

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study History;

You require;

Five (5) SSCE credit passes to include History and English Language.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i) ABU requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes to include History or Government, English Language and three (3) other subjects in Arts or Social Sciences.

(ii) FED-DUTSINMA accepts five (5) ‘O’ level credits to include History, English Language and Mathematics. A credit in Government may be considered in place of History.

(iii) FED-LAFIA requires credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, History/Government and any other relevant subjects.

(iv) FED-LOKOJA requires five (5) ‘O’ level passes at credit level to include History or Government, English Language and other three from Arts or Social Sciences.

(v) UNI-IBADAN accepts five (5) ‘O’ level credits at one sitting or Six (6) ‘O’ level credit at two (2) sittings to include English Language, History, Government, and any other subject from Arts and Social Sciences. The sixth (6th) could be from Science.

(vi) KASU accepts Government in lieu of History.

(vii) UNILAG requires five (5) ‘O’ levelcredit passes in English Language, Mathematics, History/Government and any other two (2) Arts subject from Literature in English, CRS/IS, Hausa, Yoruba, and Igbo, Civic Education.

(viii) NDA requires five (5)‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, History and two (2) other subjects from Commerce, Geography, Economics, French, Arabic, Account and Government.

(ix) OAU requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes to include History and English Language plus one (1)Arts subject and any other two (2) subjects from Arts or Social Sciences. Accepts Government in lieu of History.

(x) REDEEMER’S accepts ‘O’ level pass in Mathematics.

(xi) SAU and UNIBEN require ‘O’ level credit passes in English, History/Government and one (1) other Arts subject.

(xii) UMYUK requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes at or its equivalent in English Language, one (1) of History or Government, any three (3) subjects from Arts or Social Sciences and ‘O’ level credit pass in Mathematics at not more than two (2) sittings.

(xiii) UNIKINGS requires ‘O’ level credit pass in Mathematics.

(xiv) UNN accepts five(5)‘O’ level credit pass in Government in lieu of History and three (3) other Arts or Social Science subjects.

(xv) UNN, ABU require five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, History/Governmentplus any three other subjects.

JAMB SUBJECT COMBINATION

In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study History under the Faculty of Arts & Humanities in the above Universities include;

History and any other two subjects from Arts and Social Sciences.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i) ABU requires History or Government and any other two (2) subjects from Arts and Social Sciences.

(ii) UNIABJUA and FED-LOKOJA accept Government in lieu of History.

(iii) UNIBEN accepts History or Government, one (1) Arts subject and any other subject.

(iv) FED-LAFIA requires CRS/IS and any other relevant subject.

(v) FED-LOKOJA accepts History/Government and any other two (2) subjects from Arts or Social Sciences

(vi) UNILAG requires History/Government and any other two (2) subjects from Arts or one (1) from Arts and one from Social Sciences.

(vii) OAU requires History and any two (2) Arts subjects.

(viii) SAU accepts Government in lieu of History.

(ix) UNIZIK requires Literature in English, History/ Government and any other Arts or Social Science subject.

(x) UNN accepts History or Government and two other Arts or Social Science subjects.

DIRECT ENTRY REQUIREMENT

These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study History, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;

Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in History and any other related subjects.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i) ABU accepts two (2) ‘A’ level passes including History at IJMB or NCE.General English/Use of English at NCE, satisfiesthe UTME English Language requirement.

(ii) UNIABUJA accepts
a) ND lower credit with the UTME requirements plus two (2) years post qualification.
b) a minimum of ten (10) points in NCE or ND upper credit in addition to the UTME requirements or two (2) ‘A’ level credit passes including History or Government and one (1) other Arts subject.

(iii) UNIBEN accepts ‘A’ level pass in Government in lieu of History, NCE credit in History; Government or Social Studies.

(iv) FED-DUTSINMA requires two (2) ‘A’ level passes in History or/and Government and any other related subject. It also accepts ND/NCE with good grades in any relevant progamme/subject.

(v) GSU accepts NCE merit in History as Major subject.

(vi) UNI-IBADAN accepts two (2) ‘A’ level/NCE passes in History and any other related subject.

(vii) UNILAG requires very good passes in three (3) JUPEB/‘A’ level subjects, History /or Government and any two (2) or one (1) of Igbo, Yoruba, CRS, IS, Literature in English, French, Music and Fine Arts.

(viii) SAU accepts two (2) ‘A’ level passes in History and Government, NCE credit in relevant subjects.

(ix) NAU requires two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Historyand any other related subject. MAIDUGURI and UDU accept NCE merit pass level in relevant subjects.

(x) UNN requires a minimum of five (5)‘O’ level creditpasses to include History or Government, English Language, and a science subject.

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into OAU for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 200  or above in your JAMB result.
