Requirement for Nursing Science

Below are the O’level Subjects required for Nursing Science, Public Health, Public Health Technology, AND Public & Community Health in the Faculty/College of MEDICAL/PHARMACEUTICAL/HEALTH SCIENCES;

  • Five (5) SSC credit passes in Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and English Language.

Special Consideration for O’Level Subjects

  • AAU requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry in a sitting.
  • ABU and IBADAN (UI) – No admission through UTME.
  • IBADAN (UI) requires five (5) or six (6) ‘O’ level credit passes at one (1) or two (2) sittings to include English Language, Biology/Health Science, Chemistry, Mathematics, and any one (1) of Economics, Government, Literature in English, History, Geography or Physics, (this will be an advantage).
  • NDU requires’0’ level credit passes at not more than two (2) sittings.
  • UNN requires ‘0’ level credit passes or its equivalent at not more than two (2) sittings.

Direct Entry Requirement for Nursing Science

Below are the Direct Entry Requirements for Nursing Science, Public Health, Public Health Technology, AND Public & Community Health in the Faculty/College of MEDICAL/PHARMACEUTICAL/HEALTH SCIENCES;

  • Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Biology/ Zoology, Chemistry, and Physics plus three (3) other ‘O’ level credit passes in Mathematics, Physics, and English Language.
  • NRN or its approved equivalent plus five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language and four (4) Science subjects chosen from Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Human Anatomy, Physiology and Hygiene, Health Science, Further Mathematics, and General Science

Special Consideration for Direct Entry

  • AAU
    • Accepts Registered Nurse/Midwife RN, RM with one (1) year post registration experience, RN, RPN or RN, RNA, or RN, RNT plus the UTME requirements.
    • Accepts good first-degree programs e.g. Biochemistry, Anatomy, Human Physiology, Health Education, Psychology, Guidance, and Counselling.
    • does not accept a degree in Zoology and Botany

    • ‘A’ Level/IJMB passes in three (3) subjects from Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Zoology.
    • Registered Nurse (RN) certificate with at least five (5) ’0’ level credits passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry.
    • ABUAD requires three (3) ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry, Physics, and Biology.
    • AUE – ND credit plus the UTME minimum requirements.
    • UNIBEN requires three (3) ‘A’ level passes in Biology/Zoology, Chemistry, and Physics plus ‘O’ level credit passes in five (5) subjects, including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English.
    • UNICAL requires NRN or its approved equivalent plus five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes to include English Language and one (1) Science subject from the subjects listed in the “Direct Entry Requirements” column plus two (2) years of registration nursing experience.
    • UNICAL accepts HND in Public Health, ND in Environmental Health, and Public Health Nursing from West African Health Examination Board and the UTME requirements.
    • EBSU accepts HND, NCE, and ND with a minimum of Merit and Upper credit, respectively, in the relevant program.
    • FUTO requires at least an ‘A’ level passes not below a ‘C’ in any two (2) of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Accepts ND/HND upper credit in Health Related programs plus the UTME requirements. It does not accept first-degree or NCE.
    • IBADAN (UI) accepts possession of any one (1) of the following professional qualifications

    • UNIILORIN requires two (2) ‘A’ level passes or equivalents in relevant subjects: Biology, Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Physics/Mathematics.
    • UNIJOS requires three (3) ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry, Physics, and Biology/Zoology plus ‘O’ level credit passes in Mathematics and English Language.
    • LAGOS requires
      • All direct entry candidates to satisfy the minimum UTME requirements.
      • Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria as RN or RN/RM with at least two (2) years post-registration cognate experience.
      • Passes in three (3) JUPEB subjects: Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
      • ‘A’ level passes or equivalents in at least two (2) subjects from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Zoology.
      • A degree in any health-related subjects from a recognized University with a minimum entry requirement for the College of Medicine program.

      • First Degree of LAUTECH approved by Senate in any related program or profession plus the UTME requirements.
    • NDU accepts
      • NURSES: Registered Nurses (NRN), Registered Midwives (RM), Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RPN) plus five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology, at not more than two (2) sittings.
      • NON-NURSES: B.Sc. not lower than Second Class in relevant programs such as Biochemistry, Medical Microbiology, Human Nutrition, Medical Laboratory Sciences and any other relevant program.
    • OAU accepts Certificate of Registered Nurse (RN) or SRN or its equivalent as approved by the Senate plus ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry.
    • PHC – No Direct Entry.
    • UNN accepts
      • Nurses registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (N&MCN), plus the UTME requirements.
