Applications are invited from young Africans for the Mandela Institute for Development Studies (MINDS) Scholarship Programme for Leadership Development 2023.

The Programme, launched in 2017, brings to realization MINDS’ vision of developing young leaders with a continent-wide development mindset and leaders who can facilitate greater cooperation between African countries.

The Scholarship Program allows African students to study in a different African country, allowing them to immerse themselves in a new environment. The richness and diversity that the country and its communities offer.

Expanding access to education promotes openness to ideas and creates a network of like-minded leaders. This, in turn, helps to advance the performance and tangible progress of the African continent.

The Mandela Institute for Development Studies (MINDS) Scholarship Benefits

The Scholarship will cover some or all of the expenses below, depending on whether a partial or full scholarship is awarded:

• Tuition
•  Accommodation and meals
•  One return ticket per duration of studies
•  A fixed stipend.

MINDS Scholarship Eligibility

MINDS Scholarships are awarded to deserving applicants following a rigorous selection process. To be considered for a MINDS Scholarship, you must:

• Possess African citizenship and reside in any African nation.
•  Possess an official acceptance letter from one or more MINDS-preferred institutions outside your country of birth and residence.
•  Possess a formal acceptance letter from one or more MINDS-approved institutions allowing them to enrol in postgraduate programs the following year.
•  have completed your last two years of study with at least 70% in each subject or course
•  Create documentation of your demonstrated leadership skills or potential using the application form’s questions and requirements as your guide.
•  Complete the online application form and upload any necessary supporting documents.

How to Apply for MINDS Scholarship

• The listed documents should be scanned, stored, and prepared for upload. Each file you upload must be in PDF format—a copy of your passport’s data/bio page, with each attachment no larger than 2MB.
•  A certified copy of your last two years’ grades or transcripts.
•  A duplicate of the university’s formal acceptance letter. To whom it is addressed: The applicant.
•  Mention the level of acceptance the applicant has received for the study.
•  Indicate the academic year that the degree will start.
•  Indicate how long the course will last (for example, a year).
•  A copy of a current visa or study permit OR evidence of application. (Optional)
• A detailed resume or CV that is at most four (4) single-sided pages.
•  Two letters of recommendation, each no longer than three pages, should speak about the applicant’s moral character, leadership abilities, and dedication to the advancement of Africa.
