About Oglethorpe University
Atlanta, Georgia, is home to Oglethorpe University, a private liberal arts college. It was initially founded in 1835 but had a difficult existence hampered by financial and political issues until being opened permanently in 1913.
The university’s 100-acre campus, home to its main buildings, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Whilst the university is home to several interesting and important historical sites, one of the best-known is a time capsule known as the Crypt of Civilisation.
Due to being opened in the year 8113, it sealed the time capsule in 1936 and contained many important cultural and historical artefacts.
The campus is also home to several other historical places, including the Oglethorpe Museum of Art.
Oglethorpe University continues to offer a broad range of sporting opportunities. The athletic teams at Oglethorpe University are well-known for its mascot, Stormy Petrel, which is named after a well-known seabird. These teams participate in basketball, lacrosse, softball, tennis, and volleyball, among other sports.
Around 25 majors are available at the university, spanning various areas in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.
Alongside this are a smaller number of undergraduate minors and some pre-professional qualifications.
The university also offers several foreign study opportunities, a long-standing feature of its academic portfolio.
Oglethorpe has produced several well-known and successful alums, including MLB Hall of Famer Luke Appling.

The seminar options will be presented to you in December, and you’ll be asked to rank your selections online.
