This is to inform the general public and all Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) aspirants that the Department of Science Laboratory admission requirements has been published.
The admission requirements include O’level Subject combinations, JAMB UTME Subject combinations, and School and Departmental Cut-Off Marks.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Science Laboratory include Five SSCE credits in the following subjects:
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Chemistry
- Biology
- Physics
SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS
(i) UNIBEN for Science Laboratory Technology requires five O’ level credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry and any two of Biology, Physics, Agricultural Science and Geography, depending on the option chosen by the candidate. Candidates opting for Physic/Electronics, Petrochemical Geology and Physiology/Pharmacology Techniques must have credit in Physics.
JAMB SUBJECT COMBINATION
In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Science Laboratory Technology under the Faculty of Sciences in the above Universities include;
Biology, Chemistry and either Physics or Mathematics
SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS
(i) UNIPORT for Science Laboratory Technology
A. Requires Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry for Geology and Mining Technology, Physics with Production Technology, Industrial and Petrochemical Technology and Physics with Electronic Technology options.
B. Requires Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics for Biochemistry and Chemistry Technology, Biomedical Technology and Microbiology technology options.
DIRECT ENTRY REQUIREMENT
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Science Laboratory Technology, if you don’t intend to use UTME.
You require;
Two ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and any one from Biology, Zoology or Botany
SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS
(i) UNIPORT – No Direct Entry Admission.
(ii) UNIBEN for Science Laboratory Technology in addition to UTME requirements may accepts at least two advance level passes in the General Certificate of Education (G.C.E.) or Higher School Certificate (HSC) or its recognized equivalents at not more than two sittings. The subjects should be of the Sciences.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted to the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, for the 2022/2023 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 160 or above in your JAMB result.
