FUTO Department of Metallurgical & Material Engineering Admission Requirement

This article is designed to  students who wish to study Metallurgical and Material Engineering Faculty of Engineering, Environment and Technology  in Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO)  as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in Federal University of Technology, Owerri to carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

  • ♦   Provision and promotion of sound basic scientific training as a foundation for the development of technology and applied sciences, taking into account indigenous culture and the need to enhance national unity
  • ♦   To act as an agent and catalyst for the effective and economic utilization, exploitation and conservation of the country’s natural, economic and human resources, through training research and innovation.

To study Metallurgical and Material Engineering candidates must meet the following requirements.


The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Metallurgical and Material Engineering;

You require;

Five (5) SSC credit passes to include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language and one other Science subject.



(i) ESUTECH requires ‘O’ level credit pass in English Language.

(ii) FED-OYE EKITI – Same as in Mechanical Engineering

(iii) FUTO – Same as in Agricultural Engineering

(iv) UNILAG – five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes to include Physics, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry and English Language.


In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Metallurgical and Material Engineering under the Faculty of Engineering, Environment & Technology in the above Universities include;

Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.


These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Metallurgical and Material Engineering, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;

‘A’ level passes in any two of Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry


(i) ESUTECH accepts NCE/ND/HND/ first degree in the relevant subjects.

(ii) FED-OYE EKITI – Same as in Mechanical Engineering.

(iii) FUTA accepts ND upper credit or its equivalent, in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering or related programmes from recognized institutions; or good passes at ‘A’ level or its equivalent in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.

(iv) FUTO – Same as in Chemical Engineering.

(v) UNIILORIN – Same as in Agricultural and Biosystem Engineering. Relevant Programmes include Chemical Engineering Technology, Foundry Engineering Technology, Glass/Ceramics Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Metallurgy, Mineral Processing Engineering Technology, Mineral Resources Engineering Technology, Biomedical Engineering Technology, Polymer Technology, Welding and Fabrication Technology, Wood and Paper Technology.

(vii) UNILAG – Same as in Chemical Engineering. Accepts HND upper credit and ND distinction in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering.

(vii) OAU accepts ND/HND upper credit in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering into part II and III appropriately.

(viii) OAU requires ‘A’ level passes in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or ND/HND upper credit plus UTME.


JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted to Federal University of Technology, Owerri, for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 180 or above in your JAMB result.
