FUTO Department of Agricultural Economics Admission Requirement

This article is designed to  students who wish to study Agricultural Economics  Faculty of Agriculture in Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO)  as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in Federal University of Technology, Owerri to carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

The Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) is the premier University of Technology in Nigeria, established in October 1980 . Her mission is to operate practical and result-oriented programmes and training geared towards transforming the nation’s economy from consumer-oriented to production-oriented, with a sound technological base.

FUTO has evolved as the national leader in manpower development in engineering, science and technology; Constituting the primary supply of skilled manpower to the industry.

To study Agricultural Economics, candidates must meet the following requirements.

O’LEVEL SUBJECT COMBINATION

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Agricultural Economics;

You require;

Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science and one of Geography, Physics and Economics.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i) FUAM and MOUA accept ‘O’ level pass in Physics.

(ii) DELSU accepts ‘O’ level pass in English Language.

(iii) EBSU and OOU require ‘O’ level credit in Physics.

(v) UNIBEN accepts Statistics and Further Mathematics. Also requires at least ‘O’ level pass in Physics and ‘O’level pass in Biology for candidates with ‘O’ level credit in Agricultural Science.

(vi) OAU does not require ‘O’ level credit passes in Geography and Economics.

(vii) UNIOSUN same as in Fisheries.

(viii) MOUA  requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes at not more than two (2) sittings to include English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science and any other Science subjects. Also credit in Agricultural Science must be backed up with ‘O’ level pass in Biology

(x) UNIOSUN requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in the SSC or its equivalent at not more than two (2) sittings in addition to UTME requirements.

(xi) UNN accepts five (5) ‘O ’level credit passes in subjects which must include English Language, Biology/or Agricultural Science, Chemistry and either Mathematics or Physics.

(xii) FUTO requires five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science and Economics. Accepts ‘O’ level pass in Physics at not more than two (2) sittings.

(xiii)LAUTECH requires English Language, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science and any of Physics/ Economics/Geography.

(xii) FUNAAB requires

a) ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology.

b) At least ‘O’ level pass in Physics.

c) Candidates with ‘O’ level pass in Biology must possess ‘O’ level credit pass in Agricultural Science. Does not accept Agricultural Science in lieu of Biology.

(xiii) LANDMARK requires ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science with ‘O’ level pass inPhysics. N.B. ‘O’ level credit pass in Agricultural Science must be backed up with at least ‘O’ level pass in Biology.

JAMB SUBJECT COMBINATION

In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Agricultural Economics under the Faculty of Agriculture in the above Universities include;

Chemistry, Biology/ Agricultural Science and Mathematics or Physics.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i) OOU requires Chemistry and any two (2) of Physics, Mathematics, Biology, Agricultural Science and Geography.

(ii) LANDMARK – Chemistry, Physics/Mathematics, and one from Biology, Agricultural Science, Geography.

DIRECT ENTRY REQUIREMENT

These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Agricultural Economics, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;

Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and one of Zoology/Botany/Agricultu ral Science/Biology, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Geology, Economics and Health Science.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i) UNN accept

(a) Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and any of Biology/Botany/Zoology/Agricultural Science. Economics, Physics Geography/Geology, Mathematics (Pure & Applied) in addition to the UTME requirements.

(b) ND/NCE/HND and Degree in Agricultural Science/Animal Health and related programs with a minimum of lower credit/merit in addition to UTME requirements.

(ii) OAU accepts

(a) Two (2) `A’ level passes in Chemistry and one of Zoology/ Botany/ Agricultural Science/ Biology, Mathematics, Physics, or Economics.

(b) HND/ND in Agriculture obtained at upper credit level from recognized Institution.

(iii) UNIBEN accepts ND upper credit/HND lower credit in any one of Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Extension, and Cooperatives, Fisheries, Forestry & Wildlife Mgt., Geology, Advanced Microbiology, Food and Brewing Science, Science Laboratory Technology plus the UTME requirements. NCE merit in Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry or Physics plus the UTME requirements. Does not accept ‘A’ level pass in Health Science.

(iv) DELSU accepts upper credit only. DELSU also accepts NCE credit in Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry or Physics.

(v) OOU accepts

(a) credit in ND Agriculture into 100 level.

(b) requires ‘A’ level pass in both Chemistry and Biology.

(iii) ND distinction, HND credit, NCE credit double major in Agriculture

(vi) IMSU accepts NCE credit, ND/HND Double major credit in Agriculture into 200 level of the programme.

(vii) UMOUA as in Agriculture.

(viii)FUAM accepts ND/HND/NCE in Agriculture, Agricultural Science and Education, Forestry, Home Economics, Food Science and wildlife from a candidate who posses UTME requirements. Candidates with ‘O’ level credit in only one of Mathematics and Physics must have ‘O’ level pass in the other.

(ix) DELSU accepts ND/HND upper credit only.

(x) FUTO requires at least two (2) A’ level passes not below C in Chemistry and any of Zoology, Botany, Agricultural Science, Biology, Mathematics, Physics and Economics. Accepts upper credit ND/HND in Agricultural Science but does not accept First Degree and NCE. Candidates must in addition meet the UTME requirements.

(xi) UNIOSUN same as in Fisheries.

(xii) LAUTECH requires Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science and any of Physics/Economics /Geography.

(xii) FUNAAB accepts

(a) Two (2) ‘A’ level credit in Chemistry and one of Zoology/Botany/Agricultural Science, Biology, Mathematics/Physics.

(b) HND/ND in Agriculture obtained at upper credit level from a recognized institution.

(c) NCE credit in Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry or Physics plus UTME requirements.

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted to Federal University of Technology, Owerri, for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 180 or above in your JAMB result.
