Federal University of Technology Minna (FUTMINNA, FUTMx) is a Federal Government established post-secondary educational institution located in Minna, Nigeria
FUTMINNA specializes in technological education. The University is a designated Centre of Excellence in Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering and has a core competence in the development of vaccines and drugs.
FUTMINNA was founded in 1983, and the first Vice-Chancellor was Professor J.O. Ndagi who served from 1983 to 1990. The governing bodies are the Council and the Senate. In the beginning, the University took over the facilities of the former Government Teachers’ College Bosso, for use on a permanent basis. This site now serves as the Bosso Campus of the University. The main campus gidan kwano which is sited on a 10,650 hectares of land is located along the Minna – Kataeregi – Bida Road. The institution is listed in the Guide to Higher Education in Africa, Association of African Universities and the International Association of Universities, 1999.
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Food Science and Technology;
Five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology/Agric, Science, Physics, Basic Catering and Food Services, Bakery and Confectionaries, Hotel & Catering Crafty course (Cookery), Hotel & Catering Craft Course (Food /Drinks Services) and Basic Electricity.
In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Food Science and Technology under the Faculty of Agriculture in the above Universities include;
Chemistry, Mathematics/ Physics and Agric Science.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (WAIVER) REMARKS
(i) ESUTECH and FUTO require Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology or Physics.
(ii) FUTO does not accept Agricultural Science.
(iii) FUTA requires English Language, Chemistry, Physics and any of Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science.
(iv) FED-OYEEKITI and UNN accept Biology in lieu of Agricultural Science
(v) EBSU, BELLS accept Chemistry, Biology and Physics or Mathematics
(vi) KSU and UNIZIK require Chemistry, Mathematics/ Physics, Biology/ Agricultural Science
(vii) FUNAAB requires Chemistry, Biology and Physics or Mathematics.
(viii) UNICAL requires Chemistry, Physics and Biology/Agricultural Science.
(ix) MAUTECH requires Biology/Agricultural Science and any other two of Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Economics and Mathematics.
(x) FED-DUTSINMA requires Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science and Physics or Mathematics.
(xi) FUTMINNA requires Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science and any one of Mathematics or Physics.
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Food Science and Technology, if you don’t intend to use UTME.
Two ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and Biology/Physics/Agric Science/Botany/Zoology.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (WAIVER) REMARKS
(i) IMSU accepts ND/NCE/HND in Agriculture, Animal Health, Food Science and Technology and Certificate of Registered Nurse (NRN).
(ii) ABSU and MAUTECH accept ND in Food Science and Technology.
(iii) EBSU accepts
(a) NCE with minimum merit passes in relevant subjects.
(b) HND and ND with a minimum of upper credit in relevant programs.
(iv) FUTMINNA accepts ND lower credit/NCE merit in the Agricultural components of choice, and a minimum of merit in the other component; or a HND with a minimum of lower credit to be admitted into 300 level.
(v) FUTA accepts ‘A’ level passes or equivalents in at least two (2) Science subjects including Biology or Agricultural Science or ND in Food Science and Technology with a minimum of upper credit from a recognized institution.
(vi) FUAM and KUST as in Agriculture
(vii) FUAM, MAUTECH accept ND/HND in Food Science and Technology.
(viii) UNN accepts for the four (4) year B.Sc. program, ‘A’ level passes in any two (2) of the following subjects: Chemistry, Biology (Botany or Zoology), Agricultural Science, Physics, Mathematics.
(ix) RSUST requires three (3) ‘A’ level passes in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics plus the UTME requirements. Accepts ND/UD upper credit or HND in relevant programs or Bachelor’s degree in any other Science/ Technology discipline plus the UTME requirements.
(x) UNIILORIN requires candidates with ‘O’ level pass in Biology, but who have ‘O’ level credit pass in Agricultural Science may be considered. ‘O’ level pass in Physics is acceptable in lieu of ‘O’ level credit pass.
(xi) BELLS accept ND upper credit in Food Science and Technology/Science Laboratory Technology with Biology/Virology/Chemistry/Biochemistry options.
(xiii) MAUTECH accepts
(a) ‘A’ level passes in any two (2) of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics / English, Biology/Agric. Science
(b) ND/HND in Food Science and Technology may be considered for 200 & 300 level
(xiv) FUNAAB accepts upper credit in ND and HND in Food Science and Technology, Agricultural Programmes from recognised institutions in addition to the UTME requirements.
(xv) FUAM accepts the UTME requirements plus `A’ level passes in Physics and any one (1) of Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology or Biology upper/lower credit HND in relevant program plus the UTME requirements. ND upper credit in relevant programs plus the UTME requirements; NCE credit pass in relevant programs plus the UTME requirements. (xvi) EBSU requires ‘A’ level passes in at least two (2) relevant subjects Physics, Chemistry and Biology obtained at one (1) sitting and/or ND or its equivalent.
(xvii) FED-OYE EKITI requires two (2) ‘A’ level passes in any of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or Biology or ND in Food Science and Technology, Science Laboratory Technology (Food Science Option) with a minimum of upper credit.
(xviii) KUST accepts
(a) ND in Microbiology and Biochemistry with a minimum of upper credit.
(b) NCE Double Major in related subjects with aggregates of eight (8) points.
(xix) UNICAL – In addition to the basic Departmental requirements, candidates must have a minimum of upper credit in ND in Food Science and Technology or ‘A’ level passes or its equivalent in at least two (2) of Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Mathematics.
(xx) FED-DUTSINMA requires
(a) Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and Biology/Agricultural Science.
(b) IJMB in relevant subjects.
(c) NCE/ND with at least merit in Mathematics/Physics/Chemistry and one (1) of Biology/Agric. Science.
All candidates interested in getting admitted into FUTMINNA for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 180 or above in your JAMB result.
