FUTA Department of Minning Engineering Admission Requirement

This article is designed to help students who wish to study Mining Engineering under the Faculty of Engineering, Environment & Technology   in Federal University of Technology Akure as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in FUTA to  carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

The Federal University of Technology Akure (informally FUT Akure or simply FUTA) was founded in 1981under a drive by the government of Nigeria to create universities that specialised in producing graduates with practical as well as theoretical knowledge of technologies. It is located in Akure, the capital city of Ondo State.

Other universities of technology established around the same time were the Federal University of Technology Owerri, the Federal University of Technology, Abeokuta (FUTAB), which later metamorphosed to the present University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), the Federal University of Technology Minna, the Federal University of Technology Yola, and the Federal University of Technology Bauchi (now Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University).

O’LEVEL SUBJECT COMBINATION

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Mining Engineering;

You require;

Five SSCE credit passes in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English Language and any other Science subjects

SUBJECTS SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i) UNIJOS – requires two (2) ‘A’ Level or IJMB passes from Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. Accepts ND credit in Civil Engineering or related programmes from a recognised institution. Accepts ‘O’ Level credit pass in Mathematics. (All credits at one sitting).

(ii) FUTA requires five (5) SSC credit passes or its equivalent at a maximum of two (2) sittings in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other Science subject.

(iii) ABU requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other Science subject.

JAMB SUBJECT COMBINATION

In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Mining Engineering under the Faculty of Engineering, Environment & Technology in the above Universities include;

Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.

SUBJECTS SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

SUBJECTS i. ABU accepts Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

DIRECT ENTRY REQUIREMENT

These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Mining Engineering, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;

(i) ‘A’ level passes in any two of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

(ii) ND (upper credit) in Mining Engr./ Mineral Resources and Geological Study in addition to ‘O’ level requirements

SUBJECTS SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i) FUTA accepts;
a) OND at Upper Credit Level or its equivalent in Mining or Mineral Resources Engineering or related discipline from recognised institutions ; or
b) Good passes in Advanced Level of General Certificate of Education or its equivalent in at least two of the following: Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.

(ii) UNIJOS requires two (2) ‘A’ Level or IJMB passes in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. Accepts ND credit in Mining Engineering/Mineral Resources Engineering or related programmes from a recognised institution. Accepts ‘O’ Level credit pass in Mathematics.

(iii) ABU requires
a. ‘A’ level/ IJMB Passes in Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry.
b. ND in Metallurgical nad Materials Engineering or related field with Upper Credit.
c. HND in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering or related field with minimum of Lower Credit.

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into FUTA for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have score a minimum of  180 and above in your JAMB result.
