FUTA Department of Marine Science and Technology Admission Requirement

This article is designed to help students who wish to study Marine Science And Technology under the Faculty of Sciences   in Federal University of Technology Akure as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in FUTA to  carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

The Federal University of Technology Akure (informally FUT Akure or simply FUTA) was founded in 1981under a drive by the government of Nigeria to create universities that specialised in producing graduates with practical as well as theoretical knowledge of technologies. It is located in Akure, the capital city of Ondo State.

Other universities of technology established around the same time were the Federal University of Technology Owerri, the Federal University of Technology, Abeokuta (FUTAB), which later metamorphosed to the present University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), the Federal University of Technology Minna, the Federal University of Technology Yola, and the Federal University of Technology Bauchi (now Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University).

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Marine Science And Technology;

You require;

Five (5) SSCE credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology and two (2) other science subject.



(i) FUTA requires five (5) SSC credit passes or its equivalent at a maximum of two (2) sittings in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology/Agricultural Science.


In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Marine Science And Technology under the Faculty of Sciences in the above Universities include;

Biology and any two (2)  of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.



(i) FUTA requires English Language, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry


These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Marine Science And Technology, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;

Two (2) ‘A’ level passes or NCE in Biology, Zoology or Botany and one other Science subject.



(i) FUTA requires;
a) ND at a minimum of upper credit level in Oceanography, Mineral Exploration, Mineral Resources Engineering, Geology, Geophysics, Meteorology, Marine Biology and Science Technology; or
b) ‘A’ Level or equivalent passes at one sitting with at least six (6) points in two (2) of the following subjects: Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry.

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into FUTA for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have score a minimum of  180 and above in your JAMB result.
