FUTA Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture Technology Admission Requirement

This article is designed to help students who wish to study Fisheries And Aquaculture Technology under the Faculty of Agriculture  in Federal University of Technology Akure as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in FUTA to  carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

The Federal University of Technology Akure (informally FUT Akure or simply FUTA) was founded in 1981under a drive by the government of Nigeria to create universities that specialised in producing graduates with practical as well as theoretical knowledge of technologies. It is located in Akure, the capital city of Ondo State.

Other universities of technology established around the same time were the Federal University of Technology Owerri, the Federal University of Technology, Abeokuta (FUTAB), which later metamorphosed to the present University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), the Federal University of Technology Minna, the Federal University of Technology Yola, and the Federal University of Technology Bauchi (now Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University).

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Fisheries And Aquaculture Technology;

You require;

Five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Chemistry, Biology/Agric Science, Mathematics and Physics/Geography/Economics.


(i) FUTO requires at least five (5) ‘O’ Level Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science and any other subject, in not more than two (2) sittings. At least a Pass is required in Physics.


In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Fisheries And Aquaculture Technology under the Faculty of Agriculture in the above Universities include;

Chemistry, Biology/Agric and Mathematics/ Physics


(i) FUTA requires Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science, Mathematics/Physics

(ii) FUTO requires Chemistry, and any two (2) of Biology/Agricultural Science, Mathematics and Physics.


These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Fisheries And Aquaculture Technology, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;

Two ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and Biology/Botany/Agric Science/Zoology/Physics.



(ii) FUTA accepts;

(a) ND with a minimum of upper credit or equivalent from FUTA UDS program or recognized Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology in relevant disciplines (Agricultural Sciences)

(b) GCE or equivalent passes at one sitting with at least two (2) of the following subjects: Chemistry, Biology and Physics.

(ii) FUTO requires;

a) At least two (2) ‘A’ level passes not below Grade C in Chemistry and any one of Zoology, Botany, Agricultural Science, Biology, Mathematics, Physics and Economics.

b) OND/HND at Upper Credit in Life Sciences. c) First Degree in Life Sciences. d) Very good passes in three JUPEB subjects namely Chemistry and any two (2) of Biology/ Agricultural Science, Mathematics and Physics. It does not accept NCE. Candidates must in addition meet the ‘O’ Level requirements.

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into FUTA for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have score a minimum of  180 and above in your JAMB result.
