FUTA Department of Applied Geology Admission Requirement

This article is designed to help students who wish to study Applied Geology under the Faculty of Sciences in Federal University of Technology Akure as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in FUTA to  carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

The Federal University of Technology Akure (informally FUT Akure or simply FUTA) was founded in 1981under a drive by the government of Nigeria to create universities that specialised in producing graduates with practical as well as theoretical knowledge of technologies. It is located in Akure, the capital city of Ondo State.

Other universities of technology established around the same time were the Federal University of Technology Owerri, the Federal University of Technology, Abeokuta (FUTAB), which later metamorphosed to the present University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), the Federal University of Technology Minna, the Federal University of Technology Yola, and the Federal University of Technology Bauchi (now Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University).

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Applied Geology;

You require;

Five (5) SSCE credit passes in English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and any other subject.


(i) FUTA requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes  at not more than two (2) sittings or its equivalent in Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and English Language.  ‘O’ level credit pass is also required in Biology or Agricultural  Science or Geography

(ii) BASU  require five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.

(iii) BASU accepts Agricultural Science in lieu of Biology


In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Applied Geology under the Faculty of Sciences in the above Universities include;

Any three of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology and Geography.


(i)  FUTA accepts Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics/Biology


These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Applied Geology, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;

(i) Two (2) ‘A’ level passes from Geology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Geography.



i) FUTA accepts ND upper credit in Geology, Mineral Resources or Mining Engineering or ‘A’ level passes or its equivalent in two (2) Science subjects including Chemistry and Mathematics

ii)  BASU accepts IJMB/’A’ level  passes in any three (3) of the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. ND lower credit in Geology from a recognised Polytechnic. The candidate must also have five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science and Physics.

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into FUTA for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have score a minimum of  180 and above in your JAMB result.
