FUTA Department of Animal Production and Health Admission Requirement

This article is designed to help students who wish to study Animal Production and Health under the Faculty of Agriculture in Federal University of Technology Akure as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in FUTA to  carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

The Federal University of Technology Akure (informally FUT Akure or simply FUTA) was founded in 1981under a drive by the government of Nigeria to create universities that specialised in producing graduates with practical as well as theoretical knowledge of technologies. It is located in Akure, the capital city of Ondo State.

Other universities of technology established around the same time were the Federal University of Technology Owerri, the Federal University of Technology, Abeokuta (FUTAB), which later metamorphosed to the present University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), the Federal University of Technology Minna, the Federal University of Technology Yola, and the Federal University of Technology Bauchi (now Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University).

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Animal Production and Health;

You require;Five SSC credit passes in Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology/Agricultural Science, Physics and English Language.


(i) LAUTECH accepts Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology/Agricultural Science, Physics and English Language.

(ii) FUTA requires five (5) credit passes at SSC, or its equivalent at a maximum of two (2) sittings in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science.


In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Animal Production and Health under the Faculty of Agriculture in the above Universities include;

Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science and Physics/Mathematic


(i) LAUTECH requires Chemistry, Mathematics/Physics and Biology/Agricultural Sciences.

(ii) FUTA requires Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science/Animal Husbandry and Mathematics/Physics.


These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Animal Production and Health, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;Two ‘A’ level passes or equivalent in Chemistry and one of Biology/Botany /Zoology/Agricultural Science/ Geography/Geology/ Mathematics/Economics.


(i) LAUTECH requires ND with upper credit/HND/NCE at credit level in relevant subjects, plus the UTME requirements

(ii) FUTA require:

(i) ND with a minimum of upper credit or equivalent from recognised Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology in Agricultural Sciences.

(ii) GCE or equivalent passes at one sitting with at least six (6) points in Biology/Animal Husbandry and any of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into FUTA for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have score a minimum of  180 and above in your JAMB result.
