FUPRE Department of Geophysics Admission Requirement

This article is designed to help students who wish to study Geophysis under the Faculty of Sciences  in The Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun (FUPRE) as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in (FUPRE ) to  carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

The Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun (FUPRE) in Delta State, Nigeria was established and approved by the Federal Executive Council meeting of 14 March 2007 and admitted its first set of undergraduates in 2008.

The university was established under the Federal Government of Nigeria initiative to build a specialized university in the Niger Delta to produce manpower and expertise for the oil and gas sector.

The National Universities Commission(NUC) approved sharing of facilities between the Petroleum Training Institute Effurun and FUPRE until it moved to its permanent site on development of its main campus at Ugbomro, Uvwie Local Government Area in 2010.

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Geophysis;

You require;

Five (5) SSC credit passes including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry/Biology

(i) BASU – In addition to the UTME requirements, a credit pass in Geography will be an advantage.

(ii) MOUNTAIN TOP requires five (5) credit passes at SSC or its equivalent at not more than two sittings to include Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry, Further Mathematics/Biology/Agricultural Science/Geography.

(iii) FUPRE requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes including English Language, Biology, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry

(iv) FED-OYEEKITI accepts five (5) credits passes in SSC (or its equivalent) including English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

(v) OSUSTECH requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology /Geography.

(vi) UNILAG requires Five O/Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.


In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Geophysis under the Faculty of Sciences in the above Universities include;

Physics Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics.

(i) UNILAG require Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

(ii) FUPRE requires Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry.

(iii) FED-OYEEKITI requires Physics and Mathematics, Chemistry or Biology.

(iv) MOUNTAIN TOP requires Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry/Biology/Agricultural Science/Geography.

(v) OSUSTECH requires Physics, Mathematics and any one of Chemistry, Biology and Geography.


These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Geophysis, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;

‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics

(i) BASU requires ‘A’ level passes in Physics and Mathematics. ‘A’ level pass in Geology will be an advantage

(ii) OSUSTECH requires
(a) Two A’ level passes in Physics and Chemistry or Geography.
(b) National Diploma (ND) with Distinction and Credit passes in relevant subjects.

(iii) UNILAG accepts very good passes in the following three JUPEB/A-LEVEL subjects: Physics Chemistry Mathematics

(iv) FED-OYEEKITI requires two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Physics, Mathematics or Chemistry

(v) OSUSTECH requires
(a)  Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Physics and Chemistry or Geography.
(b)  ND distinction or credit in relevant programmes.

(vi) MOUNTAIN TOP in addition to ‘O’ Level requirements requires:
a) a minimum of ND Upper Credit or equivalent from a recognized institution
b) G.C.E (‘A’ Level) or equivalent from a recognized institution in at least two science subjects including Physics and Mathematics.
c) Foundation/JUPEB obtained from Mountain Top University or other recognized Universities

(vii) FUPRE requires two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into (FUPRE) for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have score a minimum of  180 and above in your JAMB result.
