Eiffel Scholarships in France for International Students

The Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Program is a fully-funded scholarship. It gives opportunity to the future foreign decision-makers of the private and public sectors, in priority areas of study. Applicants of up to 25 and 30 years old from developing and industrialized countries at Master’s and PhD level are encouraged by this scholarship program.


Host Institution(s): French Universities and Academic Institutions.

Level of Study: Master’s degree program, engineering program, or a joint doctoral program (joint supervision of dissertation and/or dual degree), in partnership with a partner institution abroad.

Field(s) of study: Two major disciplinary fields concerned by the Eiffel scholarships cover the following 7 fields of study for the Master and Doctorate components:

  • For science and technology: Biology and health; Ecological transition; Mathematics and digital; Science and Engineering.
  • For the humanities and social sciences: French history, language and civilization; Law and Political Science; and  Economy Management.

Target group: International students.


Financial benefit and scholarship duration

The programme meets various expenses including international air travel, train travel within France, local transportation, health insurance, and cultural activities. Scholarship holders may also receive an additional housing allowance, under certain conditions.

  • For Master’s level studies, the Eiffel scholarship includes a monthly allowance of €1,181 and can be awarded for 12 to 36 months.
  • For PhD level studies, the Eiffel scholarship includes a monthly allowance of €1,700 and is awarded for a maximum of 12 months.

Tuition fees are not covered by the Eiffel Programme. The French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs expects the educational institutions, whose international influence is enhanced by this program, make sure students receive the best financial support. Students admitted to public educational institutions are, as French government scholarship holders, exempted from enrolment fees.

  1. This programme is reserved for candidates of non-French nationality. Even candidates with two nationalities, one of which is French, are not eligible.
  2. At the time of the 2022 application campaign, candidates must have been born after 31 March 1996 at Master’s level. But at PhD level, candidates must be at most 30 years old during the application 2022; that is, they must have been born after 31 March 1991.
  3. Only applications submitted by French educational establishments are accepted. Applications submitted by any other means shall not be considered. Furthermore, any candidate nominated by more than one establishment shall be disqualified.
  4.  Eiffel Program scholarships are intended for students seeking to enroll in a master’s-level program in France (including at a school of engineering) and for doctoral candidates. Only programs recognized by the French government are eligible.
  5. An application nominating a student rejected in a previous competition will not be accepted, even if the application was submitted by a different institution or in another field of study.
  6. For the Master’s level, candidates already studying in France are ineligible. For the doctoral level, students enrolled in academic programs abroad have priority over students already in France.
  7. Institutions may nominate for a doctoral scholarship a candidate previously awarded a scholarship at the master’s level. Candidates previously awarded a doctoral scholarship are not eligible to receive another.
  8. In order to avoid scholarship conflicts, applications nominating students who, at the time of application, have already been awarded another French government scholarship will not be accepted, even if the other scholarship covered only health insurance.


Application Instructions

Applications for EIFFEL scholarships are submitted by French Higher Education Institutions ONLY.

Therefore, you must apply and meet the requirements of the French Higher Education Institution in order to be considered for the scholarship. The application deadline to participating French Institutions is earlier and falls around November-December 2021.

Note:  Applications sent directly by students or sent by foreign institutions will be declared ineligible.

Application Deadline: The deadline for applications to Campus France is 7 January 2022.
