About Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award
The Donald A. Wehrung Foreign Student Award honours excellent undergraduate foreign students from underdeveloped or conflict-torn regions who have excelled academically despite adversity and could not attend college without financial aid.

Scholarship Benefits and Duration
The value of the Award is proportional to your demonstrated financial need and sufficient to cover living expenses and tuition costs for your degree of study.
The Award may be renewed for up to three additional years of undergraduate study or degree completion – whichever comes first – provided you achieve satisfactory academic standing in your faculty, continue demonstrating financial need, and maintain your Canadian study permit (student visa).
Scholarship Requirement
To qualify for the International Leader of Tomorrow Scholarship:
- To study in Canada, you must be an international student with a valid study visa.
- Â You must have completed your first year of a post-secondary college or another university to transfer or graduate from an accredited high school to enrol at UBC.
- Â Your high school graduation date must have been no earlier than June of the two academic years before the one for which you are applying. Candidates must have finished high school no earlier than June 2020 to be considered for the class of 2023.
- The undergraduate degree for which you are applying must be your first.
- You must exhibit exceptional academic achievement (earn all As or a comparable standard).
- You must satisfy UBC’s entrance standards, including the English Language entrance Standard and general and degree-specific requirements.
Application Process
To qualify for the International Scholars program, you must be nominated by your school or charitable organization and provide a reference from an academic referee.
Make sure your institution or nonprofit organization has the legal right to nominate you and inform your academic referee and nominator that you intend to apply to the International Scholars Program.
By December 1, 2021, submit your grant application as well as the online UBC admissions form. By 1 February 2023, you must fulfil the UBC English Language Admission Requirement.
