CERN Summer Student Internship Program 2023 (Members and Non-Members) is open to applications from international students.
You may be currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics, or you may be looking for an internship in the European summer (June-September).

About CERN Summer Student Programme
Over a period of 8 to 13 weeks, you will work on an advanced technical project in an experimental or engineering team.
During this unique and exciting time, you can attend a series of lectures specially prepared for you where experts and scientists from around the world share their knowledge about a wide range of topics in the fields of theoretical and experimental particle physics, engineering and computing.
Visits to the CERN facilities, discussion sessions, and workshops are also key features of the programme. Find out more on the Summer Student information page. A short report on your work and project at CERN will be expected at the end of your stay.
For 8 to 13 weeks, you will work on an advanced project in a laboratory or engineering team.
Eligibility for CERN Summer Student Internship
To qualify for the CERN Summer Student Internship, you must meet the following requirements:
You are an undergraduate or graduate student (not a PhD. Completed at least three years. Full-time University education before the European Summer 2008.
Your stay at CERN You still have the right to apply if you want to graduate in the European Summer of 2023 (until May)
If you have not done so before, you have worked at CERN for over three months in another capacity (student, intern, user, etc.) You are not a summer student
Your English is very good, knowing French would be even better.
Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply for the scholarship this summer.
In return, CERN will provide you with the following:
- A cooperation contract of 8 to 13 weeks* to work on a technical project.
- Comprehensive physics syllabus (students can also attend IT courses from Openlab).
- Salary of CHF 90 (after tax) per calendar day to cover one person’s accommodation and meals in the Geneva area for the duration of the contract.
- At the end of your stay, a travel allowance is paid to help you cover the travel costs between Geneva and your stay during the election.
- Coverage of the CERN Comprehensive Health Insurance Plan (benefits are deducted from the grant). ** Help to find accommodation at or near
- Applicants from non-CERN countries are only allowed to stay for eight weeks. (List of CERN members and relevant partners can be found here).
- The few students who receive direct salaries from government funds must bring their insurance to CERN.
