ASUU Strike: KASU Lecturers Kicks over Management’s Resumption Order

The Kaduna State University (KASU) lecturers have kicked against the management’s resumption order following the ongoing industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

According to the union, no threats will force members to halt the strike, supported by the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s constitution.

Dr Peter Adamu, the union branch chairman, disclosed this in an exclusive interview with THE PUNCH in Kaduna in response to a statement made by the KASU management threatening the academic staff union with sanctions if they did not return to work.

Adamu stated that the strike was legal and supported by national and international legislation.

“There is no component of Kaduna State University’s statute or Staff Condition of Service that imposes any type of discipline on teachers who participate in an action that benefits the university,” Adamu emphasized.

“The strike action is for the benefit of the university system, including Kaduna State University,” he added.

“If you take your time and visit the school, you will notice that most of the buildings there are all the result of this type of fight.”

“We are not concerned about any potential threat because, even during the military regime, such threats occurred and were reversed by the courts of the land.”

“We have not called off the strike.” We are resolved to strike until the Federal Government responds favorably.”

In response to the prior examination done by the school management while the strike was in effect, the Union Chairman emphasized that it was not the union that shuttered the school.

He explained that the administration could utilize whichever technique to administer their tests.

“The school can decide to exploit old questions or whatever, but we’re not participating, and our members are determined to remain in this legitimate and constitutionally guaranteed strike action,” he said.

Adamu also urged the Kaduna State Government and students to recognize that the strike was for the benefit of all.
