ASUU Distances Self from Lecturers Partaking in Elections

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has distanced itself from lecturers partaking in elections, insisting that they do not represent the union and its benefits.

According to ASUU, request has been made to indulge in all part of the elections, ranging from the polling units down to the announcements. They were completely turned down by the government which is what led to the unions withdrawal.

Emmanuel Osadokke the Union president, described the system as flawed and said that the union has participated in elections during the era of Professor Jega Attahiru (former Asuu president) but chose to stop because the election processes were fraudulent.

He also cited the cases of vice-chancellors who acted as Returning Officers (RO) in elections, but have no influence whatsoever, as they were only expected to announce results that have allegedly been written.
