This article is designed to help students who wish to study Geology under the Faculty of Sciences in The Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun (FUPRE) as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in (FUPRE ) to  carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

The Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun (FUPRE) in Delta State, Nigeria was established and approved by the Federal Executive Council meeting of 14 March 2007 and admitted its first set of undergraduates in 2008.

The university was established under the Federal Government of Nigeria initiative to build a specialized university in the Niger Delta to produce manpower and expertise for the oil and gas sector.

The National Universities Commission(NUC) approved sharing of facilities between the Petroleum Training Institute Effurun and FUPRE until it moved to its permanent site on development of its main campus at Ugbomro, Uvwie Local Government Area in 2010.

O’LEVEL SUBJECT COMBINATION

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Geology;

You require;

Five (5)  SSCE credit passes in English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and any other subject.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (WAIVER) REMARKS:

 

(i) AJAYI and UNIBEN accept ‘O’ Level credit passes in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and do not accept Geography.

(ii) AAUA requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes to include English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.

(iii) EBSU requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at not more than two (2) sittings.

(iv) UNIZIK accepts ‘O’ Level pass in English Language.

(v) EBSU, UNICAL and UNN require five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. EBSU does not accept physically challenged candidates because of the strenuous nature and the requirements of traversing difficult terrains and mountainous areas.

(vi) EKSU accepts ‘O’ Level pass in English Language for candidates who have distinction in Physics or Mathematics.

(vii) OSUSTECH and UNIJOS require ‘O’ Level credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Geography.

(viii) UI requires five (5) or six (6) ‘O’ Level credit passes at one (1) or two (2) sittings including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and one (1) of the following: Geography, Further Mathematics, Economics and Technical Drawing.

(ix) UNIPORT requires O Level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics.

(x) KSU and GSU require ‘O’ Level credit pass in Physics as the fifth (5th ) subject

(xii) DELSU requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credits must include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language and any other science subject.

(xiii) WESLEYUNI requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in English, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry & any other relevant subject.

(xiv) UNIOSUN requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics to form the core subjects, with credit in any of the following: Biology/Agricultural Science and Geography at not more than two (2) sittings.

(xv) ABU requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.

(xviii) NDU requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Geography.

(xix) FUTMINNA requires ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and any other relevant Science subject.

(xx) OSUSTECH require ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Geography.

(xxi) UNILAG requires ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

(xxii) NDU accepts ‘A’ Level, ND passes in any two (2) of Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Geography.

(xxiii)  UNN require five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics

(xxvi) MAUTY requires any three (3) of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology and Geography.

(xxvii) FED-LOKOJA requires Five SSC credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other relevant science subject.

(xxviii) RSUST requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Geography, Biology, Chemistry or Physics.

(xxix) FUTO requires at least five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and any other science subject in not more than two sittings. At least a Pass is required in Biology.

(xxx) UNILORIN requires at least five (5) credits including English Language, Mathematics , Biology, Chemistry and Physics obtained at not more than two (2) sittings.

(xxxi) ABU requires Five ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

(xxxii) FED-LAFIA requires Five (5) SSCE credit passes in English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics in not more than two sittings.

(xxxiii) RSUST accepts Five (5) WASC/SSCE/ GCE/NECO ‘O’ Level Credit passes in English Language , Mathematics, Geography, Biology, Chemistry or Physics

JAMB SUBJECT COMBINATION

In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Geology under the Faculty of Sciences in the above Universities include;

Any three of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology and Geography.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (WAIVER) REMARKS:

 

(i) UNIBEN accepts Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Biology. Does not accept Geography.

(ii) EBSU, DELSU and UNICAL require Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

(iii) OOU – Chemistry is compulsory and does not accept Geography as the UTME subject in lieu of Biology.

(v) AJAYI requires Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology.

(vii) ABU requires Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Biology.

(viii) WESTERN-DEL requires any three (3) of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology and Geography.

(ix) OSUSTECH requires Mathematics, Physics and either Chemistry, Biology or Geography.

(x) SALEM requires Chemistry, Physics and either of Biology, Geography or Mathematics.

(xi) UNN requires any three (3) of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Biology.

(xiii) NDU requires the five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes at not more than two (2) sittings.

(xiv) MAUTECH accepts any three (3) of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Geography.

(xv) FED-LOKOJA accepts Any three of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics.

(xvi) DELSU requires Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.

(xvii) OOU require Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics as UTME subjects.

(xviii) AAUA accepts Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.

(xix) RSUST accepts English Language, Mathematics, Biology or Geography, Chemistry or Physics.

(xx) FED-OYE EKITI any three (3) of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Biology.

(xxi) FUPRE requires Mathematics, Chemistry and any of Physics, Biology and Geography.

(xxii) FUTO requires Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics.

(xxiii) UNILORIN requires Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.

(xxiv) UNILAG requires English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

(xxv) ABU requires Use of English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology.

(xxvi) UNIPORT requires Any three (3) subjects from Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics.

DIRECT ENTRY REQUIREMENT

These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Geology, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;

Two (2) ‘A’ level passes from Geology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Geography

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (WAIVER) REMARKS:

 

(i) UNIZIK accepts  ‘A’ level passes in Geography and HND credit in Mining Engineering.

(ii) UNIZIK accepts ND credit in Biology/ Agricultural Science and Chemistry into 100 level.

(iii) UNIZIK require ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.

(iv) UNIBEN and OAU do not accept ‘A’ level Geography.

(v) UNIPORT accepts Two (2) A/level GCE or HSC or IJMB or JUPEB passes in Physics and any one of Mathematics, Chemistry or Biology including UTME entry requirements

(vi) UNILORIN
a) Three (3) ‘A’ Level passes including Chemistry, Physics plus any of Geology, Mathematics and Biology ONLY.
b) ‘A’ Level passes in Chemistry and Physics plus ‘O’ Level credit in Mathematics and Biology.

(vii) MAUTECH  accepts IJMB/Two (2) A level passes from Geology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. ND/HND in Geology and any other relevant field with lower credit

(viii) AJAYI and UI accept ND upper credit in Geology and related prorammes.

(ix) UI does not accept HND in Mining Engineering.

(x) OAU accepts HD upper credit

(xi) FUTMINNA accepts NCE credit,ND/HND lower credit plus five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and any other Science subject and ‘O’ level  pass in Physics .

(xii) DELSU
a) At least two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Chemistry and either Physics or Mathematics.
b) Diploma in Mining or Applied Geology from recognized Polytechnic with upper credit may be considered.

(xiii)   AAUA accepts
a) two (2) ‘A’ Level passes from Geology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology.
b) ND (Upper Credit) in Science, Engineering, Geo Science or any other relevant discipline.
c) ND/HND (Upper credit) in Civil, Electrical and Electronic Engineering or Geology and other science or Engineering courses adjudged relevant by the Department also qualify for admission
d) does not accept ‘A’ Level in Geography

(xiv)    OOU accepts ND/Professional Certificate lower credit in Geology and Mining

(xv)   UNIBEN in addition to the UTME requirements accepts

a)   ND upper credit / HND lower credit in Science Laboratory Technology, Mining or other relevant programmes.

b) NCE merit with ‘O’ level credit pass in Biology or Chemistry

 

(xvi) WESLEYUNI accepts

(a) Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in any of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Economics and any other relevant subject

(b) ND upper credit in addition to five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes or its equivalent.

 

(xvii) UI accepts two (2) ‘A’ level subjects from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Geography and any other Science subjects or ND upper credit in Geology.  IBADAN does not accept Geography as a UTME subject

(xviii) OAU accepts ND upper credit in Geology

(xix) UNIOSUN accepts two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics. ND lower credit in Science Laboratory Technology.

(xx) UNN accepts ‘A’ level passes or its equivalent in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or ND upper credit or HND lower credit in Geology or Geological Technology for admission into a four (4) year programme in Geology or Geology/Physics in addition to the UTME requirements.

(xxi) UNICAL does not accept ‘A’ level passes in Geography and Biology.

(xxii) OSUTECH requires two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Physics and Mathematics or Geography.

(xxiii)  UNICAL requires two (2) ‘A’ level passes from Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry in addition to the UTME requirements.

(xxiv) FUTO requires
a) At least two ‘A’ level passes not below Grade C in Geology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.
b) ND/HND at Upper Credit level in Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology or Engineering.
c) First Degree in Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry, Computer Science, or Engineering.
d) Very good passes in three JUPEB subjects namely Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. It does not accept NCE. Candidates must in addition meet the ‘O’ Level requirements .

(xxv) BUK does not accept NCE.

(xxvi)  UNILAG requires ‘A’ level passes in the following JUPEB subjects: Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, candidates must have ‘O’ level credit pass in Biology

(xxvii) UNIJOS in addition to the UTME requirements, candidates must have two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in the following subjects: (i) Geology (ii) Chemistry (iii) Physics (iv) Biology and/or Geography. Jos also accepts HND in mining Engineering in addition to the UTME requirements

(xxviii) EBSU accepts HND, ND upper credit and NCE merit respectively in the relevant programmes.

(xxxix) RSUST in addition to ‘O’ Level requirements accepts:
(a) HND (Lower Credit) in relevant discipline.
(b) OND/ND (Upper Credit) in relevant discipline.
(c) HSC/GCE A/L passes in at least two (2) relevant subjects; in Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics.

(xl) FED-OYE EKITI requires two (2) ‘A’ Level passes from Geology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology

(xli) FUPRE requires two (2) ‘A’ Level passes from Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Geography.

(xlii) FED-LOKOJA requires; In addition to meeting the UTME Entry Requirements; 2 A’ Level Passes from Geology, Chemistry, Physics & Mathematics; IJMB minimum of 8 points with passes in relevant subjects; NCE Holders are not needed; ND upper credit in Geology, Mining Engineering., Mineral Resources. & Geophysics; HND upper credit in Geology, Mining Engineering., Mineral Resources. & Geophysics; Degree (Third Class) in Chemistry, Biology, Physics & Mining Engineering. & Chemical Engineering. (xl) ABU accepts Two ‘A’ level/IJMB passes in Geology and any other science subject (Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology, Botany, Zoology and Geography.

(xliii) FED-LAFIA accepts Two (2) ‘A’ level passes from Geology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics or Biology in addition to O’ Level credit passes in Mathematics, English Language, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

(xliv) RSUST accepts Admissions into Year III; HND (Upper Credit) in relevant discipline. Admissions into Year II; HND (Lower Credit) in relevant discipline. OND/ND (Upper Credit) in relevant discipline. HSC/GCE A/L passes in at least two (2) relevant subjects; in Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics. In addition, all such candidates above must also satisfy the UME entry requirements

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into (FUPRE) for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have score a minimum of  180 and above in your JAMB result.
