UNIJOS Department of Mining Engineering Admission Requirement

This article is designed to help students who wish to study Mining Engineering under the Faculty of Engineering, Environment & Technologyin University of Jos as it is very important for all candidates who wish to apply for any of the courses offered in UNIJOS  to  carefully confirm and see if the course they Selected is offered in the institution before registering for JAMB.

What became the University of Jos was established in November 1971 from the ellite campus of the University of Ibadan. The first students were admitted in January 1972 as pre-degree students and the first Bachelor of Arts degree program begun in October 1973. In October 1975, then military government under General Murtala Mohammed established the Unijos as a separate institution. The first Vice-Chanc\ellor of the Unijos was Professor Gilbert Onuaguluchi. Classes began at the newly reorganized University of Jos in October 1976 with 575 students spreading over the existing four faculties of Arts and Social Sciences, Education, Natural Sciences and Medical Sciences. Post-graduate programs were added in 1977. By 1978 Faculties of Law and Environmental Sciences were established and the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences was separated.

In 2003, the Carnegie Corporation of New York gave Unijos a $2 million grant to form its own fundraising department.

HOW TO CALCULATE UNIJOS POST UTME/AGGREGATE SCORE FOR ALL COURSES

O’LEVEL SUBJECT COMBINATION

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Mining Engineering;

You require;

Five SSCE credit passes in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English Language and any other Science subjects

SUBJECTS SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i) UNIJOS – requires two (2) ‘A’ Level or IJMB passes from Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. Accepts ND credit in Civil Engineering or related programmes from a recognised institution. Accepts ‘O’ Level credit pass in Mathematics. (All credits at one sitting).

(ii) FUTA requires five (5) SSC credit passes or its equivalent at a maximum of two (2) sittings in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other Science subject.

(iii) ABU requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other Science subject

JAMB SUBJECT COMBINATION

In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Mining Engineering under the Faculty of Engineering, Environment & Technology in the above Universities include;

Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.

SUBJECTS SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

SUBJECTS i. ABU accepts Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

DIRECT ENTRY REQUIREMENT

These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Mining Engineering, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;

(i) ‘A’ level passes in any two of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

(ii) ND (upper credit) in Mining Engr./ Mineral Resources and Geological Study in addition to ‘O’ level requirements

SUBJECTS SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i) FUTA accepts;
a) OND at Upper Credit Level or its equivalent in Mining or Mineral Resources Engineering or related discipline from recognised institutions ; or
b) Good passes in Advanced Level of General Certificate of Education or its equivalent in at least two of the following: Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.

(ii) UNIJOS requires two (2) ‘A’ Level or IJMB passes in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. Accepts ND credit in Mining Engineering/Mineral Resources Engineering or related programmes from a recognised institution. Accepts ‘O’ Level credit pass in Mathematics.

(iii) ABU requires
a. ‘A’ level/ IJMB Passes in Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry.
b. ND in Metallurgical nad Materials Engineering or related field with Upper Credit.
c. HND in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering or related field with minimum of Lower Credit.

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIJOS for the 2019/2020 session, should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have score a minimum of  180 and above in your JAMB result.
