The Recovery Village’s previous Health Care Scholarship winner, Amanda Graves, received $500 to cover educational expenses.
Amanda is a graduate in Psychology at Arkansas State University and she has a passion for helping individuals with addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders. Her aspirations stem from experiences in her own life.
“Personal experience drives me to pursue educational opportunities in this specific population with addiction as well as those diagnosed with mental disorders. The need for clinical mental health practitioners is clear, as is my desire to create a difference in the lives of those in this particular population. Therefore, my educational goals include obtaining professional training to become a successful therapist in order to counsel those specifically with mental health and addiction disorders.”
“I would like to thank The Recovery Village for the scholarship! I am excited to be the fall 2016 recipient. The scholarship will help me by going directly to my tuition; since I pay all out of pocket, it will be a great help.”Amanda Graves
Amanda plans to enroll full time at Arkansas State University’s Clinical Mental Health Program. Afterward, she will obtain certifications as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor and Licensed Associate Counselor. While working as a licensed therapist, she will complete her education with a doctorate degree and eventually hopes to own and operate her own clinic.
We believe lasting recovery is not only possible but should be a viable option for anyone in need of freedom from substance abuse. We award multiple scholarships each year in support of the fields of addiction treatment, substance abuse, and recovery, in the hopes of introducing more professionals to this critical field of work.
