History was made as the very first woman in the U.S to get a uterus transplant. The lady that was recognized by her first name- ‘Lindsey’ said she is still hoping and praying to get get pregnant someday. Lindsey was told at age 16 that she won’t be able to conceive due to some issues she is having with her uterus.
Few weeks after going through the uterus transplant, Lindsey who is now 26 said ‘she and her husband have adopted three children from a foster care system’.
“I want to be open and honest about my story,”. “I was told I would never have children. I prayed that God would allow me to experience pregnancy.”
Cleveland Clinic Doctors gave more distails on the very first U.S Uterus transplant, saying it would take a year before thethne patient can try to conceive and it is through an in-vitro fertiliation.
The medical team that worked on this procedure, screend 250women and only 10 out of 250, took part in this procedure of Uterus transplant.
In this procedure, patiens are advised to encounter two pregnacies alone, which will allow the patient to stay off immunosuppressant medications. Dr. Tommaso Falcone, chairman of the Transplant Center, explained only two pregnancies would be allowed during this study to minimize risk to the patient.
“The concept is you don’t want to keep the patient on anti-rejection drugs for the rest of her life,” Falcone explained. “You’re looking at five years on these drugs. We want to minimize long-term risk.”
Dr Tommaso Falcone said the team was very pleased once the surgery had been completed.
Dr Tommaso Falcone said he is wonderinh how the patient of this uterus trsnsplant procedure would react after a long term transplanted organ.
