Sony Music Entertainment has just announced that they are expanding their operational presence across Africa, as part of a long term strategy to open offices and markets in the region. The company has just opened an office in a Isolo in Lagos Nigeria on 23-02-2016. The brain behind Sony Music coming to Nigeria and Africa is to serve as the new centre of its operations in West Africa, and has made business entrepreneur, Michael Ugwu their General manager for the West African region. Sony Music recently signed Nigerian famous superstar David, to a worldwide deal. And this is connected with Sony Music opening operations in Lagos.
Sony Music entertainment has also partnered or doing music business with some local artist in East Africa, signing Redsan alongside others.
This steps taken by Sony Music entertainment, will enhance their existing business plans and ideas in Africa where the company has already made its name in marketing.
“Expansion in Africa has been part of our strategy for several year,” said Adam Granite, President of Sony Music entertainment, Northern and Easthern, Europe and Africa, and Sony Music international. “As the region continues to grow, we see significant opportunities to market the incredible local talent in Africa, to the rest of the world as well as import our repertoire and exploit it on emerging digital platforms.”
Said Sean Watson, Managing Director of Sony Music entertainment Africa, ” we are really keen to partner with African artist, to deliver local, African and Global success stories. With over 800,000,000 people living in sub Saharan Africa. The African continent is a market with huge potential for local artist wanting to expand their horizons.
Sony Music has had offices in south Africa, both in Johannes bug and cape town. And in the continent of Africa, Sony Music entertainment gets revenue from partners such as: YouTube, Apple Music and iTunes and Vevo.
Wow, this is a very good news for artists in Nigeria and Africa. This good because there will be no more piracy again or piracy will be limited big time in Nigeria. It help a lot of artists, both made and the up & coming ones.
Now music will have standard in Nigeria & artist will be paid by slots even on Radio Stations & TV Stations.
